Hope the government will also use it as final warning to revisit the auction design that, among others, has led to this outcome and is the only chance to moderate a fair competition. Import bans, as requested by many European lobby organizations, will in my view be of very little help and are much to shortsighted. Let us all have a close view where a lot of the sub-components and materials within a „European WTG“ come from…China. In the worst case China will react by stopping to export these sub-components and then we risk that the whole EU market will collapse. We see same concerns in the automotive sector. We therefore need to be smarter than only calling for bans and come up with more innovative solutions and ideas and finally start to discuss more advanced market designs. The industry has missed that since years. It is not too late, but we need to start now. #ramboll #PartnerForSustainableChange

In a first, a German offshore wind farm will use Chinese WTG supplier, Mingyang will supply 18.5 MW turbine to Luxcara through a tender they launched back in 2023. However, the deal seems to be under great scrutiny from the German government. Although this may ease the pressures on the global offshore wind supply chain , it does not seem to be a feasible solution for offshore wind in the US. Both Republicans and Democrats are imposing/maintaining opposing policies to exports from China and specifically in areas with strategic nature such as renewable energy. In addition , it disadvantages domestic manufacturers and efforts to mature and support local content.

https://lnkd.in/eSxqZ4jK TenneT today published the offshore bidding zone blueprint. The blueprint gives an overview of key elements of an offshore bidding zone, building on many studies and collaborative work that was carried out over the last years in ENTSO-E, the North Sea Wind Power Hub and within TenneT. Scaling up of North Sea power production is crucial to realise the European energy transition. To do that cost effectively requires that offshore infrastructure is used efficiently and combines functions like transporting wind production and international exchange. Offshore bidding zones are a means to enable coordination and efficient allocation of capacity within the market. Many stakeholders are involved in further developing the North Sea energy system and market. The blueprint is a contribution to that ongoing dialogue, comment or DM if you want to discuss!

Are we fit for scaling-up wind energy? 🌬️ This was the leading theme during the North Sea Energy Debate at Offshore Day, in which I participated alongside Marnix van Alphen from Vattenfall and Michiel van Rij from RWE Here are some key takeaways from our discussion: ⚡ One of the crucial factors for accelerating the rollout is the establishment of a meshed offshore grid. To contribute to this, we are actively preparing our 2GW DC platforms for multiple connections. ⚡ Connecting offshore platforms with other wind farms, countries, or gas pipelines is vital for the robustness and flexibility of the offshore grid. ⚡ To integrate the offshore grid with the Northwest-European energy system, we need to team up with market parties and act now on three areas: 1️⃣ To co-create an effective market concept for offshore bidding zones 2️⃣ To reach out to EU & NL gov’ts to build up necessary regulation 3️⃣ To solidify a supplier base for NWE offshore projects for decades to come Special thanks to Management Producties for organising this conference and to Jan Vos from NedZero - Branchevereniging voor windenergie for moderating the debate. 🙏 #offshoreday #energytransition #offshoreenergy #offshorewind #windopzee
