Creating experiences of wonder in the music classroom? My heart leaps up when I behold A rainbow in the sky: So was it when my life began; So is it now I am a man; So be it when I shall grow old, Or let me die! Extract of poem from William Wordsworth As music educators we want our children to develop this kind of lifelong passion for music. We want their hearts to ‘leap up’ to the wonder of it, rather than their heads to ‘focus in’ on characteristics or elements. We assess understanding of beats and rhythms, musical concepts... but how do we prioritize the emotional journey as musical stargazers whilst allowing intellectual facets to serve in the adventure? How might we consider changing standards and benchmarks and assessment to serve this endeavour? Here are some ideas based on experiences...children could have more experiences that provide: 1. Exposure to stories in music 2. Free movement to music 3. Free play with art materials to music 4. Free play with toys to music 5. Community and relationship building to music What experiences would have made you awe in the ‘wonder’ of music as a child? #musiccurriculum #musiceducation #musicteachers

Consider these questions:🅰️ What do my students like to do in their free time?🅱️ What sorts of activities do they enjoy?🆎 What sorts of shows are they watching?🅾️ What type of music do they listen to?🆘 Is there any way to incorporate these details into my teaching?

This has been a long almost 4 year project.. but I'm convinced that this integrates voice science into choral the choral rehearsal process that creates blend, virtually eliminates pitch issues and deals with registration issues sanely and effectively while integrating Music Leatning Theory aural literacy into every warm-up. These exercises are meant to be a daily " prequel" before your normal exercises crafted for the literature you are about to teach! https://lnkd.in/ePGk_h6d

Today's #economictimes features an article on the importance of integrating music in school. Medical research states playing an instrument boosts brain power. Yet, in India, musical education often takes a backseat. The good news is that the #nationaleducationpolicy 2020 recognizes the arts as cognitive enhancers. The not-so-good news is that not all schools have made music education a compulsory subject. We say, let's bridge the gap. #MusicEducation #BrainPower #MusicInSchools #NEP2020 #Music #Schools #Students #Education #SchoolLife #Arts
