At Girls Leadership, we always begin with check-ins to build belonging. Check-ins, however quick, allow us to show up as humans before going into our roles as teachers and students, or coaches and players. Here are two versions of a check-in to acknowledge and celebrate the cultures that are in a room, without requiring young people to put a label on their culture.

How can playful learning lead to a more inclusive approach? As I am digging more and more into universal design and inclusive classrooms, I am so grateful for this thoughtful thesis by Lisbeth to open up a space for a needed conversation. #playfullearning #inclusiveeducation
As we applaud the inclusion miracle in Lillehammer, Norway, it is important to delve into the details, which is, as we all know, where the devil is. For anyone with an interest in how a playful pedagogy can lead to a more inclusive approach, I make a couple of useful recommendations in my recent thesis for my MBA (Educational Leadership) at Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Finland.

Promoting allyship in the workplace to ensure everyone feels seen, heard, and belongs | Forbes Contributor
Any idea how many cultural observances will be in 2024? At least 150. While organizations tend to recognize the traditions of the dominant culture, less attention is generally given to the holidays and celebrations of historically marginalized groups. Intentional and consistent attention is key. To be more inclusive, consider: 1. Practicing respectful curiosity 2. Providing options and flexibility for celebrations 3. Avoiding appropriation; instead, practicing appreciation Bonus: We have free resource guide for your 2024 planning at https://lnkd.in/g_VaRXYh. #diversityandinclusion #allyship #leadership

With at least 150 cultural observances in 2024, it can feel overwhelming to figure out how to best accommodate and demonstrate stated DEI values as a company. Here's a great start and solution to offer: "You can make cultural observances more inclusive by ensuring employees know that any parties or celebrations are completely optional and voluntary. You should be clear that your party is a holiday or year-end celebration, versus focusing on any one religious holiday. For time off, you might consider offering floating holidays across the year so that employees feel empowered to take time away from work when it makes sense for them, versus time off surrounding any one major religious holiday."

We held our First Nations Youth Voice Forum recently on Gadigal land and listened to the voices of young people and industry leaders. From lively discussions the group developed the following recommendations to ensure First Nations young people's voices are heard and valued: ➡ Organisations should offer employment opportunities to First Nations young people. ➡ Approach young people in their space to consult and work in ways that are comfortable for them. ➡ Supporting rural and regional youth with access to the opportunities metropolitan young people receive. ➡ Organisations should recognise and compensate young people for their time and knowledge. ➡ Enhance and upskill young people's leadership skills through mentorship and internship opportunities. ➡ Establish meaningful Youth Action groups to ensure diverse voices are represented. By prioritising these actions we can ensure that First Nations young people are empowered and their voices truly influence change. 📢🖤💜🧡 #TheYNSW #YMCA #FirstNations #Reconciliation Reconciliation NSW The Y Australia

I refer to these as part of the eternal principles that are always admired in someone's life and behavior. However, it's not the admiration alone, it is the self-discipline and self-awareness within one's self that produce these eternal values. Moreover, they transcend all basic expectations of humans, though they seem to be our basic foundation on which we form and transform life goals. Nonetheless, they are sometimes looked upon as ideals when we, as a people stray from their reverence and we see their fading absence in our children. We tend to question their way, their future; and sometimes we beg them to try and cultivate at least a part of these principles. More and more they are becoming Ideals instead of norms and customs. Everyone needs these all the time and still money cannot buy them in their most authentic form. Time for self-reflection... One Love!
