A negative angle on a REALLY positive transition 🥲 80% of Danish film the audiovisual industry find it very important that the industry takes climate responsibility. Many state that they still don't know how, but 50% believe they have a personal responsibility. That there is still a great lack of knowledge, time and money question can't be a surprise. Since Josefines and mine late 2018 start-up became the first Danish consultancy specialized in film/TV and began firing up the discussion and create climate actions in our industry, things went slooooow up until 2022. The past year and a half we have held full day workshops, several productions has been @Green Film certified and more and more film workers are educating themselves to become green heroines on set. Thanks to the unique Bftp - Bæredygtig Film- og TV-produktion group and their supporters our industry now has two full timers, Caroline Gjerulff & Laura Kornerup working to guide the industry during the transition. One of them was even a part of our darling start-up 🍁 Thanks to SF Studios I’ve been able to spend my full working hours managing all our Danish productions since March 2022 and help creating a strategy for our entire group. This means we can now make a smooth transition and begin implementing good practices on all our Nordic productions during the coming year. All of this did not exist before. We should keep fighting for climate change and social justice – we are not doing enough! But our industry is doing quite a lot, and we need to work with what we have = creativity and impact. What we don’t have is energy for negative angles to a positive development in an industry under pressure. What we know is that we need people to manage this transition = extra hours = political action! That is what we should ask for, in my bumble opinion 🐝

Welcome back! "Quiet on the set"... the students are extremely silent in the classroom, eagerly awaiting the commencement of production. The anticipation fills the air, and even the faintest whispers can be heard. It's finally time for production! Do you recall the "other" commands that a director might call before shouting "Action," as mentioned earlier? These are the commands that precede the director's call to action. The director will utter, "Roll camera!" and the camera operator will respond with, "Camera rolling." Next, the director will command, "Roll sound!" and the sound mixer will reply, "Sound rolling." Alternatively, you may hear "Speed" or "Sound speeding," which convey the same meaning. A slate is then clapped, and finally, the director enthusiastically exclaims, "Action!" Here it is—production day! Each teacher accompanies their once prospective filmmaker teams to the chosen locations, either the ones the students had previously selected or even better alternatives. The film students also handle wardrobe and props. Despite limited resources and no budget, they learn the valuable lesson that if something cannot be found, it can be created. If a real car chase is not possible, camera blocking and stop motion techniques can bring the scene to life. So, where do they begin? You guessed it—film crew roles. All roles are essential, and each student will perform every job, including taking on the director's position and steering the ship of this metaphorical journey. As the teams learn, they discover that "Quiet on the set" can be expressed in numerous ways—softly or loudly. Magic glasses make an appearance. When you put them on, you can become whoever you desire to be. Lights, camera, action! Then, a cut... batteries are dead once again! It's time for a Nakumatt run, Kenya's equivalent of Walmart. The videos are then transferred to the computer. Oh no, there are challenges with computer technology and the FLIP interface, but the prospective stage is behind us. The kids are filmmakers—hurrah! What happens next? Will the students delve into the editing process? Will more students embrace the film steps and create films from their unique perspectives? Stay tuned for this installment of "Haba Na Haba" to find out! https://lnkd.in/g-siw3mE

Regenerative Agriculture is a fascinating topic and can offer comprehensive solutions for many issues facing food production. We often get asked for recommendations to learn more about it - there are many good books, podcasts and research papers out there, but a great place to start is with the documentary on Netflix ''Kiss the Ground'', the trailer is here: https://lnkd.in/e7PGhKHv #RegenerativeAgriculture #SustainableFarmland #ImpactInvesting

A great series of videos explaining the native seed supply chain in western United States, with more episodes being released later this month! Native seeds are a vital part of restoring our ecosystems, food security and the overall general health of our planet. There are roughly 1,700 seed banks in the world. One of the oldest seed banks is in St Petersburg, Russia established over 100 years ago, and the biggest is based in the USA currently houses more than 500,000 samples of genetic material. Humans have modified seeds and lowered global seed diversity dramatically in recent decades. The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) estimates that 75% of the world's crop diversity has been lost through this profound transformation of global food production. More than ever, we need to plant locally adapted seeds, diversify our eating habits and save our seeds! Sustainable seed sourcing should be one of the first things planned in any planting related project.
In the second part of the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) INSR video series, 'Planning,' Amy Bartow puts succinctly the difficulty of producing quality, biodiverse native seed: 'The most challenging part about working with native seed is the fact that we want to retain diversity and wildness. What we've done with farming is create the opposite. We've created plants that have rapid germination, that have uniform growth, that retain their seed, [and] all bloom at the same time because it's easy. It's easy to go through and harvest a bunch of plants whose seeds are all ripe at one time--and just stay on. When we're talking about restoration, we don't want to have plants that have this super-narrow gene pool and all have the same traits. So it's challenging to farm a plant when you're trying to retain these wild qualities.' https://lnkd.in/gNmw9bUW https://lnkd.in/gC_uVbWZ #nativeplants

Blue and great tits deploy surprisingly powerful memories to find food Blue and great tits recall what they have eaten in the past, where they found the food and when they found it, a new study shows. In the first experiment of its kind to involve wild animals, blue and great tits demonstrated 'episodic-like' memory to cope with changes in food availability when foraging. The same study may suggest that humans leaving out seeds and nuts for garden birds could be contributing to the evolution of these memory traits. Episodic memory is a memory system involving the...
