May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness month. In the small quaint town I reside in this past Friday law enforcement amazingly intervened to save an adolescent from jumping off the overpass ramp. I do not know all 24k connections here on linkedin personally, but I do know the reality is many have been blindsided recently with layoffs, corporate restructuring, plants closing.... We are amidst an emotionally challenging point. Here is what I do know...Linkedin has over 2.4MILLION individuals on this platform who are in the recruitment and Talent Acquisition space. Isn't it time for #Recruiters, #HiringManagers, #HumanResources professionals to band together and utilize LI as the networking and engaging platform it was built to be? Isn't it time that instead of leaving job openings vacant for 3, 4, 6 months or more we stop the insanity of trying to find the perfect candidate, and instead look to invest in the hundreds of people willing to learn new skills, driven to excel simply because they have families to provide for? Look - mental health and career are related, whether organizations want to acknowledge this or not, and behind every job eliminated is a person, a family they are supporting and it is time as a country we started putting the humanity back into human resources, recruitment, talent acquisition and stop treating people like commodities and more like people!
