Sharks face serious threats such as changes in their ocean environment due to pollution and climate change, & particularly, illegal fishing for their fins. It remains crucial to enable effective conservation to protect sharks & ensure their role in maintaining ocean health & resilience which drives a sustainable economic future, with inter-connected benefits for people and nature. The Important Shark and Ray Areas of the Central and South American Pacific   The Important Shark and Ray Areas (ISRAs) team recently began their endeavor to put sharks on the map. This innovative approach to place-based conservation takes inspiration from Important Marine Mammal Areas, Key Biodiversity Areas, Ecologically and Biologically Significant Marine Areas, and Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas. The first region to be investigated was the Central and South American Pacific: from the Gulf of California, Mexico, to the south of Chile. A workshop for HNV farmland methodology and its application in the West Balkan (WB) region was organized. 👉The main task of this workshop was to identify the CLC classes that can be considered HNV farmland (fully or in certain conditions), use of additional auxiliary information such as altitude, environmental zone etc. During this workshop some focus was given to identifying grazing share as it is a very important topic in WB region. An interactive session was organized where EAA staff showed different CLC Classes by altitude (DEM), environmental zone etc. for the entire WB region to give an impression of the distribution of these classes. The aim was to get an overview/feeling of the distribution of different CLC classes (important for the HNV farmland assessment) in the WB region 🍀
