The key takeaways included engaging teams to ensure everyone feels at home and providing direct links for LGBTQ support. Let's continue to give everyone the freedom to be themselves at Wickes. #WickesPride #Inclusion #Diversity #Pride2024 #lifeatwickes

As we celebrate Pride Month, let's take a moment to reflect on the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in our workplaces and communities. Embracing DEI not only enriches our environments but also drives innovation and growth. This month, let's commit to learning more about the experiences of the LGBTQ community, to understanding the challenges they face, and to taking action in support of their rights. Let's use this time to start conversations that matter, to share stories that inspire, and to build bridges that unite. Together, we can create a world where everyone is free to be themselves and where equality isn't just a goal, but a reality. #PrideMonth #DiversityAndInclusion #EqualityForAll

Brighton Trans Pride and Brighton Pride are big events. Really big. It makes you think all is well and going in the right direction. It isn't. While political parties are currently making things worse, often aligning with anti-LGBT organisations, workplaces can do much better. It's simply about creating cultures of mutual respect and dignity, where "being yourself at work" is never a thing to fear or even doubt. "Over a third of respondents (and over a half of trans employees specifically) reported disguising their LGBTQ identity at work due to fear of discrimination, and 18% of LGB , 26% of trans, and 37% of non-binary employees reported not being ‘out’ at work. Perhaps most concerningly, 12% of LGBTQ employees were encouraged by colleagues to hide their LGBTQ identity - this again, more than doubled for trans employees. "Three in five respondents agreed that their workplace had appropriate policies in place to protect LGBTQ employees, however fewer than half felt policies adequately protected trans employees. Further, 12% of LGB respondents shared that they wouldn’t feel comfortable reporting homophobic or biphobic bullying, rising to 20% for trans employees regarding transphobic bullying."
In support of Pride Day, Billy Campbell's blog reflects on the positive progress made towards improving LGBTQ inclusion in the workplace, and considers how LGBTQ employees can be better welcomed and supported in order to achieve full equality and inclusion. As the executive sponsor of our Proud@BAM network I have witnessed first hand the work that has gone on to make BAM UK & Ireland an inclusive workplace, where we can all feel respected and supported in everything we do. So clearly it disappoints me to see that 47% of respondents in a recent survey we did don’t think that the construction industry is an accepting industry for the LGBTQ community. The findings are concerning and demonstrates that our sector, along with so many others, still has lots of work to do to create a more inclusive environment. As an industry we can’t afford to lose out on talented people if we are to build a sustainable tomorrow and deliver the infrastructure our country needs to thrive. But change will only come if we all do our bit. It’s everyone’s responsibility, from managers, colleagues to businesses to ensure that everyone feels safe and able to bring their true self to work. Inclusion is not just ‘a nice to have’, it’s a win-win for everyone. How accepting are we of the LGBTQ community in our industry? What needs to be done to improve inclusion and make sure people feel welcome to be themselves? To celebrate Pride and encourage conversations around inclusion and identity, BAM conducted a survey to identify areas in which the industry needs to improve. Over 700 people shared their thoughts, click on to see what we found: https://orlo.uk/y2NQX 🌈 #Pride2024 #Inclusion #MakingPossible #Pride 🌈 Building Equality | Pride in London | Manchester Pride | Birmingham Pride (UK) Ltd | Brighton Pride CIC
