Dan's destination: City of Eau Claire! It wasn't the best day for solar, but clouds couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of Chippewa Valley Technical College staff, including Dean Adam Wehling, who showed DSPS Secretary Dan Hereth around the college's Energy Education Center, partially powered by these solar panels. He also toured the CVTC Health Education Center and learned how the college is strengthen the state workforce through #innovation and #apprenticeship. This week, the The Sydney Morning Herald highlighted the "desperate shortfall of skilled workers needed in the transition to renewable energy." The National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) and the Electrical Trades Union both called for increases in training services and facilities and targeted skilled migration. The article notes that this year, the federal government launched a scheme in which apprentices working in the renewable energy sector would receive $10,000 to help Australia meet its 2030 and 2050 emissions reduction targets. But with a 58 per cent completion rate in apprenticeships, ETU national secretary Michael Wright says the industry will need an additional 20,000 apprenticeships starting every year to have enough skilled workers to meet targets. A recent report by MCS CHARITABLE FOUNDATION revealed that careers advisers and social media influencers could play a key role in steering young minds towards green apprenticeships, underscoring that the tools to achieving the UK's net-zero goals rests in the hands of Generation Z (Gen Z). The UK will need 60,000 people installing solar panels and in related industries by the mid-2030s, and need 50,000 heat pump engineers by the same time, in order to progress towards net zero. In a recent visit to EKC Ashford College I witnessed first hand the opportunity of green career options for young people. The college offers vital electrical and engineering skills and training to help students be work ready. #employeenengagement #energy #netzerostrategy #skillsandtraining #socialsustainability #strategyanddelivery #ashford #kentbusiness Read more about unlocking GenZ's green potential. https://lnkd.in/es-re5Xb

𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 & 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 | B2B, B2B2C, Strategy, Leadership | Renewable Energy & Construction
Is college the only path to achievement? This recent Good Morning America piece on high school seniors deciding between college and trade schools sparked a great conversation (https://lnkd.in/ez3E-MBF). Automotive, electrical, plumbing, and welding are gaining popularity among young adults, which is understandable as college tuition climbs near $100,000 a year. But what if I told you there's expanding field with amazing career opportunities – clean energy, and specifically wind energy? Watching this piece, I was surprised to hear no mention of clean energy professions, despite the fact that wind technician is the fastest growing career category in the United States according to the BLS. For young people seeking a stable and rewarding career path, wind energy offers a compelling combination of factors: 🚀 Fast Growth: As wind power becomes an increasingly critical part of the energy mix, the demand for skilled wind energy technicians is sky high. 🛣️ Clear Progression Pathways: Wind energy careers offer well-defined paths for advancement, with opportunities to move into leadership, engineering, operations management, health and safety, education, and sales. 💸 Low Cost of Entry: Trade schools and certificate programs can provide the necessary skills and qualifications to enter the wind energy field at a significantly lower cost than a traditional four-year college degree. 💚Fulfilling Work: A career in wind energy allows you to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future. I firmly believe in the importance of higher education, but there's numerous paths to achievement. While college remains a viable choice, the trades provide a distinct set of benefits. We have a lot of challenges in the training space around construction. But lots of effort to improve and develop a higher bar. We have had important changes to existing apprenticeship frameworks, new apprenticeship standards, new standards in terms of best practice and courses around solar, EV and battery storage. We also have ever changing/ammending regulations to contend with. I have seen at close quarters the work many within awarding organisations, TESP, NET, IET, ESF, CPSs providers, trade associations and more do day to day in that aim. Combined with some exceptional trainers working under extremely difficult circumstances. I just wanted to post and say thank you to all. Your work often goes unseen and it is the easiest thing in the world to point out the problems. I still sometimes do this… But I am here to work alongside all in terms of finding solutions collaboratively as my view is that’s the only productive way. I for sure won’t get everything right but the intention is always to help. That’s why the little academy space exists. Freely available to anyone in industry in the hope it effects positive outcomes. Some say it’s easy and I guess depending on what you actually do it maybe is. All I can say is I put a lot into making an effort alongside others who support. Like Mattie and Gavin who combined through the means of Royal Mail to get the latest EV area into existence. #apprentice121 #electricians #training

If you are concerned about future capacity in the profession and what we can do about it – this webinar is for you! If we are to grow our sector to meet the demands of tackling climate change adaptation and driving nature’s recovery, and if we are to become a more diverse and inclusive profession, we need to transform how people can embark on a career in ecology and environmental management. Following on from the launch of our CIEEM-Lantra report into vocational pathways to support entry into the sector, we are pleased to invite you to a short webinar and panel discussion on how we bring about change and how employers and leaders need to be involved in designing and creating that change. Representatives from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE), Department for Education, and Further and Higher Education sectors will explain the current offering for school leavers and career changers regarding apprenticeships, skills boot camps, degrees and micro-credentials. Through a panel discussion, we will explore what is working and what isn’t from an employer’s perspective and what the next steps should be. Book now👉https://lnkd.in/efxq6Xvr

Regenerative Consultant / Inflation Reduction Act Consultant / LEED AP BD C / Owner at Regenerative Shift
Yesterday, Regenerative Shift received a call from a company could be summarized as: "I urgently need your help to not potentially lose $4,000,000 in Inflation Reduction Act savings." It related to prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements, which can apply to many IRA incentives including 179D (Energy Efficiency), 48 (Renewable Energy), 48C (Advanced Manufacturing), and many others. If you don't know how PW&A requirements affect your project, I recommend prioritizing this research. #prevailingwage #inflationreductionact #48C #ITC #PTC #179D #apprenticeship #IRS #IRA

Seen something funny today in Installer Online there is a college claiming to be running the uk’s first low carbon apprenticeship courses, ie ASHP. We’ve been running low carbon apprenticeship courses for almost 2 years now, realising back then that Gas MLP courses, really needed the Air Source Heat Pump Course to be part of the standard courses. We’ve been lobbying for funding assistance for employers, who are working on future technologies today. Not 5 years from now, but right now!! In Scotland. Working on ASHP, Solar, EESS, Electric Vehicle Charge points, hybrid systems and it’s only now that public colleges are starting to approach these low carbon technologies. Myself and the team work as consultants for energy suppliers, councils, large businesses, smaller businesses and independents and are learning from the front line everyday and adding constantly to our course materials, have been for the last couple of years. We’re working with businesses ranging from a few thousand in turnover per year to 10 million, then 100’s of millions, helping create and implement curriculum solutions where the current solutions don’t meet the needs of businesses. It’s good to know that the “1st” college in the industry has begun these low carbon solutions courses though 👏

The Federal Government has launched a review into trade apprenticeships to meet the demands of Australia's renewable energy shift. According to the Electrical Trades Union of Australia (ETU), 4 in 10 apprentices drop out, challenging the sector's need for 32,000 workers by 2030. This review will look at achieving greater completion rates to help address the workforce challenges and skills shortages during Australia's energy transition. Federal Minister for Skills and Training, Brendan O'Connor, has announced this comprehensive review, led by former Fair Work Commission President and Federal Court judge, Iain Ross, and University of Canberra Chancellor and former Education Department Secretary, Lisa Paul AO PSM, to address issues and bolster the energy sector workforce. Hear what ETU National Secretary, Michael Wright, had to say on the key barriers facing apprenticeships and learn more about the review here: https://lnkd.in/gU5-j7ND #PSO #PoweringSkillsOrganisation #energysector #energyworkforce #energytransition #apprenticeships #trades #vocationaltraining #vocationaleducation #electrical #gas #renewableenergy #workforcedevelopment

1moEau Claire was beautiful (the sun came out shortly after our CVTV visit) and Chippewa Valley Technical College was impressive. The dental simulation center is state-of-the-art and enables the college to prepare more hygienists for Wisconsin. As always, I left with immense respect for the work the Wisconsin Technical College System does to meet workforce demand through innovation, commitment to mission, and extensive community collaboration.
