World Peatland Day 2024 What a difference a year makes! On World Peatland Day, we are happy to celebrate our continued peatland restoration partnership and support ADLnature, who have been working hard to restore peatland on the Wyvis Estate. Following extensive work through the challenging Scottish weather, the peatland has been transformed to its former, wetter glory. This video shows how an area that was previously dry, damaged, and cracked is now flourishing. The placement of over 1,600 dams, 49,500 metres of reprofiling, and 81 pools treated with sphagnum all add up to a healthy peatland. Peatlands store twice as much carbon as forests, meaning they’re vital in tackling climate change. Just like forests, our peatlands are critical in supporting plants, wildlife, ecosystems, and the water cycle. Scotland is lucky to have one of the densest coverings of peatland in Europe, with approximately 20% of our country covered by peatland. The local Wyvis Estate holds special significance for us as the water source for our Invergordon Distillery. Our Sustainability team also sit on the Scotch Whisky Association Peat Supply Chain working group to further foster responsible management and use of peat across the industry. We look forward to watching the land and our partnerships continue to flourish. Join us in raising a glass to celebrate this boggy wonder! #whyteandmackay #worldpeatlandsday

This hashtag#NetZeroWeek we’re delighted to announce a new partnership with the Woodland Trust, the UK's largest woodland conservation charity. As an Official Woodland Carbon Partner, we’ll support the Woodland Trust’s nature-based restoration efforts in the UK. The regeneration of woodland has an important role to play in addressing climate change. Woodland not only has a positive impact on removing carbon from the atmosphere, but it also has other positive effects such as, improving flood protection and developing habitats that support a variety of species. “As we strive to achieve our net zero goals, it’s important to us that we take a holistic approach. This includes taking action to reduce our emissions, as well as exploring and investing in technology and nature-based solutions. “Climate change is driven by more than carbon emissions. Human activity is interconnected with impacts to land, water, nature health and more. We must consider these complex interactions and seek opportunities to generate positive impact in multiple areas. That’s why we’re choosing to partner with the Woodland Trust. We could see the clear and wide-ranging benefits, and we trust that these positive impacts will grow for years to come”. – Joanna Foster, Head of Responsible Business Consultancy Find out more about the vital role of woodland regeneration in the UK here: https://ow.ly/8mGH50SyAQS

While late spring rains were abundant, the summer heat has taken its toll on the Llano Estacado, and consequently, on the Ogallala Aquifer. Playa lakes play a critical role in recharging the Ogallala Aquifer. These wetland ecosystems scattered across the High Plains act as natural reservoirs, capturing and storing rainwater during wet periods, helping to replenish the Ogallala Aquifer, one of the largest freshwater aquifers in the world. 🌾 At Playa Lake Farm & Ranch, we prioritize sustainable water management, recognizing that these playas are essential components of a complex ecosystem. Our conservation efforts focus on preserving these wetlands, allowing them to flourish as crucial habitats for migratory birds and wildlife while also helping to recharge the aquifer. 🏞️ 🦢🦆 By safeguarding the health of our playas, we contribute directly to the recharging of the Ogallala Aquifer, supporting the long-term sustainability of water resources for future generations.

Welcome to the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership! 🌱 There is not just a climate emergency, but an ecological emergency too. And the evidence is clear that we must increase the speed with which we are helping nature to recover if we are to prevent ecological breakdown. The Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership (CIOSLNP) is a collaboration of local partners working together to grow nature – leading our local ambition for nature recovery. The Board brings representation from key partners including Cornwall Wildlife Trust, Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust , University of Exeter and the University of Plymouth, The National Trust and the farming and landowning community. The LNP and Cornwall Council have co-produced a long-term framework for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to grow nature - the Environmental Growth Strategy - which contributes towards a collective aim of 30% of land and seas well managed for nature by 2030 (30 by 30). In the short-term, the LNP are working very closely with Cornwall Council, who are the responsible authority of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS), by acting as their Steering Group. Together we are helping to create a blueprint for nature recovery across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly that will help prioritise where and how to invest and take action in the short-term to make nature bigger, better and more joined 👉 up: https://lnkd.in/dJnJ_xrr Providing support for the LNRS is one of the top priorities for the LNP for the 2024 – 2025 period especially working to support farmers and landowners to grow food whilst championing nature in a time of great change for the sector. The overall aim of the LNRS is for at least 30% of land, rivers and seas in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to be protected and well-managed for nature by 2030. As part of this, in 2022 the LNP launched their Pledge for Nature campaign to encourage organisations and individuals to pledge their actions to support nature. So far, we have had 232 pledges totalling 14,863 hectares of land that will benefit. Make your pledge here 👉 https://lnkd.in/efMbnAET Another aligned priority is the promotion and support of investment opportunities such as Local Investment in Natural Capital (LINC) Local Investment in Nature Cornwall which you’ll hear more about over the coming months 👉 https://lnkd.in/enVFX8Hm We’ll be sharing plenty of information as we move through the process of developing our Local Nature Recovery Strategy so keep a look out for our posts. Just six months after the deployment of our artificial reefs, we witnessed transformative results for our local fishermen in Pondicherry. Embracing sustainable fishing practices, now they are earning between Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 daily, a significant uplift from their previous income. This success is complemented by their transition to hook-and-line methods, ensuring only adult fish are caught and safeguarding our juvenile marine life. This project is not just about enhancing livelihoods; it's a stride towards ecological sustainability, demonstrating the profound impact of our collective efforts towards conservation. This achievement is a clear testament to the power of sustainable initiatives in transforming lives and revitalising our oceans. It reinforces our belief that together, we can overcome challenges and build a brighter, more sustainable future for the coastal communities of Pondicherry.

🌿 A Natural Way to Transform Urban Waterways 🌿 Fytogreen’s floating wetlands are not just a sight to behold; they’re a testament to sustainable living. These buoyant ecosystems, 100% Australian-made, are a natural solution to enhance water quality, providing a habitat for aquatic fauna and birds while reducing evaporation and protecting shorelines from erosion. We love coming across stories about projects like the revitalization of the Chicago River, that bring awareness to technology that can redefine our relationship with urban water bodies. Imagine floating gardens adding beauty and biodiversity across Australia, just as the Chicago Riverwalk has become a vibrant, accessible, and eco-friendly space for locals and tourists alike. Let’s embrace this green innovation and see how floating wetlands can change the landscape of Australian cities, making them greener, cleaner, and more connected with nature. 🌱💧 #Fytogreen #FloatingWetlands #SustainableCities #UrbanGreening #WaterQuality #Biodiversity #Australia Learn More About the Chicago River Transformation https://lnkd.in/gDd2GfDZ and how it can inspire Australian cities to adopt Fytogreen’s floating wetlands for a greener future. We are supporting The Great British Spring Clean 15th-31st March with some voluntary litter-picking around our hospital grounds. So next week, some of our Sustainability Champions will be out and about in hi-vis, black bag in hand, tidying up the hedgerows and pathways on their lunch break! By picking up litter and properly disposing of it, we can help protect the environment, wildlife, and human health. Litter can have harmful effects on ecosystems, waterways, and wildlife habitats. By keeping our surroundings clean, we can reduce pollution, prevent harm to wildlife, and create a healthier environment for all. Our hospital site is very well looked after by our Waste and Grounds Team, but there is often litter that appears. If you’d like to show your support for the Great British Spring Clean, why not sign up to pledge your support to help tidy where you live: https://lnkd.in/exTaRPqX 🚮 #litterpicking #sustainability #greenertogether #greenerfuture #litter
