We need to do better for folks struggling with alcohol use. We should offer therapy, mutual support AND medication. Whatever works!
People who struggle with #alcohol use disorder do best when offered both psychotherapy and medication. It's a simple concept, but somehow it's just not widely understood or practiced. I wrote this piece for MedCity News to further this conversation. I'd love to hear from others why they think patients with #AUD aren't offered medication more often. Thoughts? https://lnkd.in/eE8AX3Fa

Great tips for CRAFT Positive communication from @wethevillage!
Our CRAFT course includes a full module on Positive Communication, helping loved ones of those with SUD plan and practice positive communication skills. Here are 7 tips: 1️⃣ Be brief. By keeping it short, you get your point across more effectively. 2️⃣ Be positive. Instead of "I hate when you drink," say "I love being with you when you're sober." 3️⃣ Be specific. Before you have the conversation, be clear about what you want to focus on. 4️⃣ Label your feelings. Speak with "I" language: "I feel X when you do Y." 5️⃣ Offer understanding. "I know how stressful work is for you these days." 6️⃣ Accept partial responsibility. "I know this is partly my fault because..." 7️⃣ How can I help? or: "I'd like to help you by..." and provide options. courses.wethevillage.co #craftapproach #recoveryispossible #positivecommunication
