Last week we celebrated Black Inclusion Week! 🖤 We’re really proud of all the work we’ve done to become an inclusive place of work, and also for our guests and customers. Within the business we: 📣 Shared personal stories from our teams of Black Heritage, talking about why Black Inclusion Week is important to them 👆 Upskilled our teams with Diversity & Inclusion Training, to give them the confidence and capability to discuss topics of allyship, inclusion and biases 📋 Shared useful resources with our teams to support their own journeys of self-education and allyship. We want to thank our Race, Religion, and Cultural Heritage Inclusion network for all the work they do to champion inclusivity across our business 👏 #DiversityAndInclusion #BlackInclusionWeek

🗓️ Why is there a Black Inclusion Week? Black Inclusion Week was launched by Black Leaders, a community of Black professionals and allies who want to make positive and sustainable change. Black Leaders CEO and Founder Paul Sesay said Black Inclusion Week will not only celebrate Black people, but also be a reminder of the importance of “embedding a fair and just society for all.” He also hopes the week will address the inequalities and systemic barriers for Black people across all aspects of society. Action needs to be taken because: 🔴 Black people are the most likely to have witnessed a racist incident at work, according to the Racism at Work in the UK (2021) report. 🔴 41% of Black and minority workers in the UK are suffering racism on the job. 🔴 Two thirds of Black employees experienced racism in the workplace in 2021. To protect the wellbeing of our Black colleagues and retain Black talent, it is important that organisations directly address anti-black racism and create anti-racist work cultures. 💡 To learn more about how you can take action during Black Inclusion Week, visit our Awareness page: https://lnkd.in/eni7Rj2R 🏷️ #BlackInclusionWeek #Inclusion #Diversity #AntiRacism

As we celebrate #BlackInclusionWeek, I want to share a powerful piece written by a fantastic colleague of mine, Jason Dunwell, that underscores the significance of this vital initiative. It’s a week dedicated to amplifying Black voices, challenging our biases, and taking actionable steps towards a more inclusive society. You really need to read the article for yourself, but some key highlights to point out include: ➡ The work of Jason's hero; historian and presenter David Olusoga, who sheds light on the UK’s history of racism and colonialism, reminding us that understanding our country's past (and the role this plays in the marginalisation of Black people today) is key to shaping a more equitable future. ➡ The media’s role in shaping perceptions and the need for critical engagement with the narratives presented to us. ➡ The impact of our daily, casual conversations in either reinforcing stereotypes or contributing to a culture of inclusivity. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gbREtjme As you read the article, I encourage you to join me in doing as Jason suggests - take some time to reflect deeply on these systemic issues and your own opinions throughout this week.

This Black History Month, we would like to highlight one of our exceptional employees, Amaal Ali! Amaal has been an invaluable part of the Talent Spaces team for over a year, making a significant impact on the development of our programmes. She is not only a talented professional but also a dedicated cheerleader for the young individuals engaging in our programmes. 🗣️ Amaal shared with us her insights on what Black History Month means to her and why it is crucial to continue recognising these awareness moments throughout the year. 📢 Amaal's perspective reminds us that celebrating diversity and fostering inclusion is not limited to a single month – it's a year-round commitment. It is incredibly important to keep the conversation going, celebrate the accomplishments of our diverse team and those beyond, and work together to build an inclusive workplace for everyone. #BlackHistoryMonth #EqualityInWorkplace #DiversityAndInclusion #InclusionMatters #TalentSpaces #Diversity #Inclusion #Equity #DEI #InclusiveHiring #WorkplaceInclusion #Equality #InclusiveLeadership #DiverseTalent #HR

🌟 Celebrating Black History Month February 1 marks the beginning of Black History Month, a time to celebrate achievements and contributions of Black Canadians and their communities. As we reflect upon the progress that we've made towards equality, it is important to recognize that the intersectionality of gender and race amplifies the challenges women face in the workplace. 🔍 A Closer Look at the Equity Gap While we've made strides towards improving diversity and inclusion in the workplace, the numbers reveal a stark reality. According to McKinsey's 2023 Women in the Workplace survey, 33% of VP-level positions in corporate America are held by women, but only 7% are women of colour. At the C-suite level, this number drops to 6%. 🌐 Creating Change Through Advocacy and Action We believe that true change happens when we collaborate across diverse groups. By fostering allyship and building bridges, we can amplify the voices of our Black colleagues, address unconscious biases, and create an environment where everyone can thrive. WCT programs such as Opening Doors, Change Agent and Mentorship Pods are designed to equip our members with the tools and skills they need to overcome barriers and succeed at all stages of their career. Learn more about our programs here: https://lnkd.in/gKy9HMgX 🚀 Moving Forward Together This Black History Month, let's celebrate the success of Black women who broke barriers and paved the way for future generations. Let their stories inspire us to continue pushing for a more equitable future! #BlackHistoryMonth #InspireInclusion #womenintech

As Black History Month concludes, let's remember that our support for Black communities extends beyond October. Globally, economic instability has posed challenges to DEI programs, with significant job cuts for DEI experts in 2022 despite the earlier momentum generated by the Black Lives Matter movement. Many DEI professionals hired to advance workplace diversity have been let go in the past six months, including at major companies. To truly make a difference, diversity, equity, and inclusion should be embedded as fundamental principles within our organisations. 💡 Here are some of the strategies you can adopt for year-round commitment to diversity and inclusion 👇🏽 #DEI #BlackHistoryMonth #Inclusion #Diversity #Equity

As a global HR leader, I believe it is crucial to use our platform to champion diversity, equality, and inclusion in the workplace. Today, I want to take a moment to reflect on the significance of Black History Month and the importance of being an ally. 🎉🔍 Celebrating the Past, Shaping the Future 🔍🎉 Black History Month provides us with an opportunity to acknowledge and honor the extraordinary contributions of Black individuals throughout history. It's a time to celebrate their achievements, resilience, and the progress we have made as a society. But it's also a reminder that there is still work to be done. ✊🏽🌍 Embracing Allyship: A Call to Action 🌍✊🏽 Allyship is about actively supporting and advocating for marginalized communities. It means standing up against racial injustice, fostering inclusivity, and creating an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered. 🌟🤝 Being an Ally: What Can We Do? 🤝🌟 1️⃣ Educate ourselves: Take the time to learn about the rich history, culture, and contributions of the Black community. Expand your knowledge and challenge any biases or misconceptions you may have. 2️⃣ Amplify voices: Use your privilege and influence to uplift Black voices, both within and outside the workplace. Encourage diverse perspectives and ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to be heard. 3️⃣ Support Black-owned businesses: Promote economic empowerment by consciously supporting and partnering with Black-owned businesses. By doing so, we contribute to a more equitable and inclusive economy. 4️⃣ Foster an inclusive workplace: Create an environment where diversity is celebrated and inclusion is the norm. Implement policies and practices that address systemic barriers and promote equal opportunities for all. 🙌🏾🌈 Together, We Can Make a Difference 🌈🙌🏾 By embracing allyship, we can build a stronger, more inclusive future. Let's celebrate Black History Month not just in February, but every day, by recognizing the achievements, talents, and invaluable contributions of the Black community. 📢🌍 Join me in this important journey of allyship and let's make a positive impact together! 🌍📢 #BlackHistoryMonth #Allyship #DiversityandInclusion #InclusiveWorkplace #Equality #Empowerment
