This is such an important lesson in marketing. When thinking about starting a brand what you really need to nail down is an identity. What is unique to your brand image. What is it that'll make your brand stand out against the rest. Brands are often very keen on rebranding and constantly evolving with the market trends but there should always one part of their identity (an icon, a word, an object, a color) that should remain consistent over the years. That is how legacy is created. The human psychology dictates that we all have a muscle memory associated with different types of media, products, brands, people or experiences we come across over our life span. When it comes to buying behaviours, consumers often trust what they seen consistently and trusted to be the same not just in terms of the quality but also the look and feel of it!

Last month we shared the story behind the 299 Lighting Ltd name and brand. It was interesting to reflect on our story and the meaning behind our brand. But it got us thinking...how do you keep your brand fresh whilst staying true to your values? As our business is heavily influenced by creativity, we are often drawn to new trends, different colours, fonts, styles. We are tempted, sometimes, to mix things up and see what comes out! There are many instances of brands who have successfully re-branded themselves. Mastercard, Instagram, Pfizer, McDonalds to name but a few. 299 Lighting has gone through a number of iterations of logo and colour palette but we're happy with where things are at the moment.
