Representing Workforce Development at the 2024 Oregon Restaurant & Lodging Association Conference! Did you know that nearly 4 out of 10 people had their first job in the hospitality industry? These positions not only build essential soft skills but also offer transferrable skills that can lead to success in any industry. Our small but mighty workforce development teams— Northwest Oregon Works (Heather DeSart & Aylee Rhea), Willamette Workforce Partnership (Kim Parker - Llerenas), and Lane Workforce Partnership (Jesse Quinn)—were excited to be part of new partnerships and collaborations led by the Oregon Restaurant & Lodging Association and its foundation. My 4 Core Values hang in my office every day as a reminder to myself and my team of the mindsets that drive us. I thought I'd elaborate on what each of these values means. 1. Be the Spark - Every day you have opportunities to shift the energy or outcome of a situation by the way you show up and present yourself. Being the spark requires an attitude of confidence and leadership throughout your day. 2. Anticipate > React - As a high-end real estate agent my job is exactly like the waiter at a 5 star restaurant. What sets 5 star restaurants apart is being able to anticipate the needs of their guests with precision and ease. We try to embody the same practice. 3. Moving Mountains with Limited Resources - We're scrappy, lean, and startup-like in approach to staff, costs, and time management. 4. Approachability Always in All Ways - Our clients and the public should feel comfortable to ask questions and get a warm, engaging response no matter if they're interested in a $250,000 condo or a $25mm mansion. There is a fifth core value that I will be introducing and doing a lot more content on in the coming months - "Radical Ownership" Whenever I approach my days with these values in mind, great things happen!
