🔍 Just dove into two fascinating posts by my colleagues! 📚 I'd like to dissect the technical nitty-gritty and share some valuable insights about Gas Lift optimisation. ❗At some point Gas Lift wells may become inefficient due to various reasons: 1. Reservoir depletion 2. High OPEX 3. Limitations of gas injection volume/pressure 4. Water loading, etc. We are forced to find a way to maintain production / bring the well back to life, and keep the operation cost as low as possible. ✅ With this, I'd typically think of two solutions: 1. Ultra-High-Speed ESP - permanent magnet motor driven ESP with the nameplate speed of 10,000 rpm. With its widest operating range (30-40% wider compared to conventional ESP), high tolerance to challenging operating conditions, power efficiency and compact design - it is easy to convert and optimize the GL well. 2. Turbox Gaslift System - Ultra-High-Speed Pump (same as above) driven by a Gas Turbine. This does not have any downhole electrical components and makes it much easier to retrofit the GL well. The latter - Turbox Gaslift System - is the most recent solution developed by our team. The Turbox Gaslift System utilizes the existing surface infrastructure of gas lift – a gas compressor, injection manifold, wellhead, etc. It is basically an upgraded gas lift with a downhole pump deployed on the production tubing (requires a rig) or inside it (rigless), where we'd deploy GL valve. We inject gas the same way we do for a conventional gas lift. Before gas discharges into the production tubing downhole, it goes through the turbine, creating torque and transferring it down to the centrifugal Ultra-High-Speed pump. This combination allowed us to significantly widen application range of the technology as we continue using gas lift, additionally we have a centrifugal pump for optimization, while electrical components have been eliminated from the completion. In other words, both gas lift and ESP advantages are combined, disadvantages are minimized. 💡 Not only did this solution change the approach in Gas Lift production, but also closed the technology gap.
