We commend the Planning Controls for Waterways program by the Department of Transport and Planning as a holistic approach to protecting the landscapes around waterways in Melbourne. We look forward to the implementation of significant landscape overlay planning controls that will result in well-integrated protection of the Werribee River and 13 other waterways in metropolitan Melbourne. Significant landscape overlay evaluates and controls infrastructure and other works that occur around waterways, thus resulting in the comprehensive protection of waterways. The explicit focus on ‘Protecting waterways so our wildlife can thrive’ is very encouraging, as waterways are the lifelines and vital corridors for biodiversity in an urban environment. The federal government has invested $20.7 million in the “Joe Louis Meets the Iron Belle: Connecting Communities in Detroit” project. The funding will enhance and expand the Joe Louis Greenway Partnership (JLGP) and Iron Belle Trail (IBT) in Detroit. The project aims to create a vibrant and accessible greenway for everyone to enjoy, with the City of Detroit partners, and the community working together to bring this vision to life. The Joe Louis Meets the Iron Belle project is one of three Michigan projects awarded grants from the #RAISE program, part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda. The greenway’s design prioritizes environmental sustainability. Landscaping efforts will create green spaces that support local biodiversity and offer urban oases for residents, with a focus on native plants and trees to enhance the area’s ecological health. Additionally, #stormwatermanagement systems will be implemented to reduce flooding risks and improve water quality. We are delighted to announce that we've been given the green light for our plans to build 10 #lowcarbon homes, predicted to achieve impressive A-rated EPCs in the sought-after Herefordshire village of Fownhope. Freeman Homes purchased the land with an existing outline planning consent and have obtained reserved matters approval for the proposals which significantly enhance environmental considerations for the properties and go above and beyond what is required by building regulations and legislation. All properties on the development which will be marketed under the development name, The Willows, will feature integrated, low-profile solar roof panels, air source heat pumps, battery packs to store generated energy and electric car charging points, enabling homeowners to save money on bills, and reduce household carbon emissions and reliance on the national grid. Ecology landscape planting, green open spaces and nesting boxes will create wildlife corridors, homes, and buffer zones, as well as boost the local environment’s biodiversity. 🌳🌱🌿 The Perth and Peel Urban Greening Strategy is currently under development! 🌳🌱🌿 The strategy aims to make the Perth and Peel region cooler, greener, and more resilient to climate change. By increasing tree canopy cover, creating green linkages, identifying priority areas for planting, and encouraging research and awareness of the benefits of urban greening, the strategy will guide government, local communities, and individuals in their greening efforts. The government has outlined its initial goals and plans, and the strategy is expected to be finalized by the end of 2024. 🌳🌱🌿 #Perth #Peel #UrbanGreening #ClimateChange #Sustainability

🌧️💚 How much do you know about Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI)? It’s a game-changer in urban planning and environmental protection. Let’s dive into why GSI is so important! 🌿 What is GSI? Green Stormwater Infrastructure mimics natural processes to manage, capture and treat stormwater. Examples of GSI practices include rain gardens, rain barrels, permeable pavements, and bioswales. These systems work by capturing rainwater where it falls and infiltrating it into the soil, which provides a wide range of social and environmental benefits. 🌎 Why is GSI Important? - Reduces Flooding: By absorbing and managing stormwater where it falls, GSI helps reduce the risk of urban flooding. Traditional gray infrastructures are still needed to manage the risk of really big floods - GSI doesn’t replace these systems, but works together with them. - Improves Water Quality: GSI filters pollutants from stormwater, preventing them from entering our rivers, lakes, and oceans. - Enhances Urban Green Spaces: Integrating GSI into urban areas creates vibrant green spaces, , improving air quality and providing habitats for wildlife while also providing public health benefits for people. - Promotes Conservation: using GSI practices allows us to grow more plants in urban areas with reduced need for irrigation, help to conserve our limited water resources. 🌱 How You Can Help - Use Permeable Materials: To allow rainwater to seep into the ground, opt for permeable pavements in driveways and walkways, limit the use of weed cloth, and replace rock mulch with wood mulch. - Support Local GSI Projects: Advocate for and support green infrastructure projects and policies in your community. - Create Your Own GSI at Home: Implement simple GSI practices on your property by installing rain barrels, building basins or rain gardens, and planting native plants. By embracing Green Stormwater Infrastructure, we can create healthier, more resilient urban environments. Let’s work together to make our cities greener and more sustainable! 🌳🌧️ #GreenInfrastructure #StormwaterManagement #UrbanSustainability #EcoFriendly #EnvironmentalProtection #GSI

A common question on Google...what are Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS)? SuDS are transforming our cities into green havens by managing rainfall sustainably. From green roofs and permeable pavements to rain gardens, these systems reduce flood risks, improve water quality, and create beautiful, functional spaces for everyone to enjoy. SuDS are expected to become mandatory for major new developments in England in 2024, or at the latest in 2025. Find out how SuDS Designs can help you today💧 🔗www.sudsdesigns.co.uk 📧[email protected] #sudsdesigns #sustainableliving #urbandesign #ecofriendly #suds #greeninfrastructure
