Thank you COSI - Center of Science and Industry for inviting Wendel’s Luis Rivera Jr, LEED Green Assoc, to participate in evaluating student presentations at the 1st Annual PLATFORM Science Fair. Three groups of five students, in conjunction with PLATFORM partner Form5 Prosthetics, were tasked with designing and building a prosthetic as part of their pre-fab program utilizing CAD and 3-D printing. Many thanks to Dr. Frederic Bertley (Director of COSI), Andy Aichele (VP of Education, COSI), and Maria Jones (Director of Corp Giving, COSI). #ThisIsWendel

What’s in the box? Possibilities! Still waiting for the other one to arrive, but I am very excited to ratchet up my 3D printing efforts for my new project. I’ve had a lot of fun with my friend’s Original Josef Průša Mini 3D printer that I decided to get two of the new MK4s—one assembled and one kit to put together with our Department of Religious Studies, The University of Alabama students in the #RELdl Digital Lab. Many thanks to The University of Alabama College of Arts and Sciences CARSCA grant program for making this happen. From the abstract ⬇️ "Previous research has primarily focused on pre-processing parameters such as design, material selection, and printing techniques to improve the strength of 3D-printed prosthetic leg sockets. However, these methods fail to address the major challenges that arise post-printing, namely failures at the distal end of the socket and susceptibility to shear failure. Addressing this gap, the study aims to enhance the mechanical properties of 3D-printed prosthetic leg sockets through post-processing techniques." This study focuses on using synchrotron X-ray scattering analysis to map crystallization kinetics during 3D printing of poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK). The results reveal a detailed 2D map of crystallization during fused filament fabrication (FFF), showing a sloped crystallization front with earlier crystallization near the print bed. Maps at different temperatures indicate a correlation between temperature, onset time, and final degree of crystallization, providing insights for performance control in high-performance polymer 3D printing. #polymerscience #3dprinting
Fantastic work by the Air Force Research Laboratory team (Brian J. Ree, Bingqian Zheng, Andrew Abbott), Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) team (Louisa Smieska, Arthur Woll, Kirt Page) and Zach Renwick of Boeing!! The team successfully visualizes the kinetics during the 3D printing of high-performance polymers using real-time synchrotron experiments in combination with scanning X-ray microdiffraction, leading to information rich 2D maps of the polymer crystallization. I would also like to thank the reviewers for the thorough and thoughtful comments and suggestions! https://lnkd.in/gctJE6Ks
