What does health equity mean to you? We asked a few of the next gen changemakers from HEAL Academy. Join us in taking a moment this Martin Luther King Jr. Day to reflect on his lifelong dedication to resisting injustice in its many forms — including health disparities. HEAL (Health. Equity. Advocacy. Leadership) Academy = A program we created and funded with our partners at the The Dimock Center to empower youth and young adults to become the health leaders of tomorrow and agents of change today. #MLKday #MLKquotes #healthequity

Founder of MTAN Solutions, LLC | Lead HMIS Data Strategist | Consultant |Advocate for Humanity in Housing Services
🌟 Reflecting on a Journey of Advocacy and Change 🌟 I recently came across an article from the *Winter 2009 issue of The Bridge* that documents my early efforts to enhance services for those facing housing instability in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Reading it revived memories of the challenges we faced and the milestones we achieved. It also reminded me of a time when collaboration among agencies felt more seamless and less influenced by politics and personal agendas. Such synergy was crucial to our success in service delivery. 📚 The article recounts my beginnings, inspired by my grandmother's unwavering commitment to providing shelter for children and families in crisis. This experience, along with my own personal encounters with adversity, deeply influenced my career path and approach. Today, still as passionate as ever, I am dedicated to systemic change through my role at MTAN Solutions, LLC, where "More Than A Number" is our guiding principle. We strive to recognize and address the unique needs of each individual and organization we partner with. My past experiences fuel my mission to refine homeless system design and provide comprehensive HMIS support. Known for my radical honesty and authenticity, I consistently push for innovative and effective solutions that challenge the status quo and foster significant improvements. 💡 I invite you to explore this glimpse into my past efforts and join me in the continuous journey to support our community members experiencing housing challenges. Inspired by what we've accomplished, we are poised to innovate and push for systemic solutions. #HousingInsecurity #SocialChange #CommunitySupport #HMIS #Advocacy

Critical thinking: My thoughts about making a better world: child care workers 500,000 dollars per year ;kindergarten teachers $400,000 per year; primary school teachers $300,000 per year; high school teachers $200,000; University teachers $100,000; Researchers no pay only on commission of 50%; Doctors no pay only on piece meal for the cured; lawyers no pay only paid on piece meal on winning cases, penalty on cases lost; policemen no pay only paid on piece meal for each rehabilitated criminal……. Use this system of reward for our work, humanity will thrive.

"Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane." - Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. As we continue to navigate through challenging times, this powerful statement by Dr. King resonates more than ever. In his speech to the Medical Committee for Human Rights in 1966, Dr. King highlighted an often overlooked aspect of social justice – healthcare equality. Today, as we witness ongoing disparities in healthcare access and quality affecting underserved communities, these words serve as a poignant reminder of our collective responsibility. It's not just about treating illnesses; it's about addressing the root causes of healthcare inequality. As professionals, leaders, and community members, we have the opportunity to drive change. Whether it's through policy advocacy, community outreach, or corporate responsibility initiatives, every action counts towards building a more equitable healthcare system. Let's honor Dr. King's legacy by committing to reduce healthcare disparities and ensuring that quality healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Together, we can make a difference. #HealthcareEquity #SocialJustice #MLKLegacy #InclusiveLeadership

The FY25 budget passed by the Georgia House of Representatives today includes $5.6 million to annualize funding for a new Behavioral Health Crisis Center in Fulton County. This new facility will open this spring as the result of a unique partnership fueled by resources from state, federal and county governments. The leaders making this facility a reality are aligned with one purpose -- saving lives and restoring hope. Our Fulton County team is so grateful for our partnership with Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Grady Health System, House appropriations, and the entire Fulton County legislative delegation. A very special thanks is owed to Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones for her leadership in securing full funding for this important facility. We can't wait to for you to see it in action. #HelpIsHere #HopeIsReal
