What if? What if the IPCC & KNMI's worst-case scenarios come true and we can expect more than 2 meters of sea level rise even within this century, 5 meters by 2150 - and much more after that? It sounds unimaginable, and hopefully won't come to pass. But even more moderate projections will already have major consequences for the Netherlands. The storm surge barrier in the Eastern Scheldt, for example, is designed for a maximum 40 centimeters of sea level rise. It will have to close more and more often, ecologically valuable sandbanks in the Wadden Sea and Oosterschelde will drown, polders will get salty groundwater and due to the impoundment of river water, low and high tides will soon reach Nijmegen. The higher the sea level rises, the more space we will need to accommodate water - especially in the busiest, lowest-lying areas. And there will come a point when dike heightening will no longer offer a conclusive solution. What then? This documentary is an invitation to imagine that one day we may have to "move with it" - move with rising sea levels and higher river levels. And it is also an invitation to start exploring now whether we can make that happen peacefully. In this film, the documentary filmmaker Maria Kolossa follows Professor Simon Richter of the University of Pennsylvania and comedian Patrick Nederkoorn, who organized meetings in the Münsterland border region to open this conversation. The film takes you to the exhibition "Plan D - Niederländische Klimaflucht nach Deutschland?" in Münster. There they are celebrating the Peace of Münster this year, the treaty that gave the Netherlands its state borders in 1648. In this exhibition, images pass by of what the Netherlands could look like in the future. And you will hear landscape architects talk about it. Under the guise of a "New Peace of Münster," various groups met in Vreden and Münster to playfully negotiate such a new peace. Part of the Dutch-German company included Marjolijn Haasnoot (Deltares), jos van alphen (Delta Commission), Karim Zantout (Potsdam-Institut für Klimafolgenforschung), Matthijs Bouw (landscape architect), Max van Tongeren (Saxion Hogeschool), Werner Brand & Joop van Reeken (Burgerinitiatief Dinxperwick), mayors, aldermen, students, water boards, farmers and concerned citizens. Prior to these meetings, everyone was nourished and challenged by "Die Orangene Gefahr," a specially screened performance by Patrick Nederkoorn, which you'll also see excerpts from. You also get a look at peaceful coexistence in the border village of Dinxperlo-Suderwick, where German Werner Brand takes you to meet his Dutch friend Joop van Heeken. It paints a utopian picture of how we can live together peacefully. In practice, of course, is obstinate. Do we manage to start a conversation about this at all? Because if we're very honest, this is something we'd really rather not imagine....
De trailer is er! Het geeft tegelijkertijd een korte indruk van onze documentaire en laat zien hoe je cultureel met het concept meebewegen om kan gaan. Directed by Maria Kolossa, produced by @Patrick Nederkoorn and @Simon Richter. Premiere on 31 October in Vreden, Germany, just across the border from Winterswijk.

Today is Day #7 after the farewell symposium of #WaterGuy Henk Ovink, and Day #2 after the big public demonstration against persistent Dutch (and worldwide) tax policies that effectively imply a subsidy of €37.5 bln to users and producers of fossil fuels. Per year! More than the (once-only) Dutch climate policy fund of €28 bln that was recently announced. The farewell symposium was full of demonstrations of what it takes to be a (#water) ambassador: posessing a reservoir of well-grounded stories on the precious character of water, a personal attitude that combines empathy with an intrusive call for action, emphasising connections with young generations, tireless will to connect with people with and without any power to make things different, inspiring, approachable, knowledgable, ethical, ... My current role as IPCC co-chair has many elements that are similar: we need to mobilize a large group of experts that compile an updated assessment of knowledge that helps society to take effective climate actions. We feel responsible, need to understand societal processes, listen to people's and company's concerns and ideas, inspire young generations to contribute, and we get a podium to reinforce urgency, action, change, support, inspiration. The actions of Extinction Rebellion NL like the one 2 days ago are an explicit call for action from an increasingly large group of citizens and professionals. People are worried, impatient, and - yes - angry, for understandable reasons. This explicit or hidden subsidy for fossil fuel consumers and producers is clearly #inconsistent with what the IPCC reports demonstrated over and over again. Yet, I wasn't at the demonstration. I decided to spend my time at Herenboeren Willemshoeve, and went to meet my fellow co-chair Winston Chow who happened to be in The Netherlands. But why did I chose to prioritize these activities, instead of mixing my voice with the many fellow-citizens that did choose to express their sincere concerns? Maybe it is also because of being a co-chair. I do take my role seriously, and want to choose those outreach channels that fit my personal and professional purposes best. But also: I will be the co-chair of many scientists that have different world views, cultures, relationships with authorities, freedom to speak, and outreach preferences than I am familiar with from my primarily Dutch perspective. I do choose to execute my role as #ambassador (for #water and #climate, it's basically the same thing) slightly differently than the people joining the demonstration 2 days ago. But we clearly share the same ambition: it is #urgent that we talk about structural changes in many, many things we do, support, value and say goodbye to. And just to underline my #ambassador-ship: here is a performance of Mozart's Dies Irea (Day of Anger) played at the demonstration. #weareallwaterambassadors
Dies Irae (‘Dag van toorn’) uit het requiem van Mozart. Geschreven op zijn sterfbed in 1791, maar gisteren vol levensvuur opgevoerd op de A12. #stopdefossielesubsidies

The Swedish film industry most prestigious film award - The Golden Beetle 🪲 has changed rules to not award any actors / actresses who are nominated in debut roles. Only established actors / actresses will be nominated and no first timers. The film awards which has very little audience impact and declining tv audience on a masisive scale, has lost its relevance for the Swedish public. Further more, a move to not acknowledge new debutants - is quite reductive and shows a tone deaf industry run by dinosaurs 🦕. What is the incentive for actors/ actresses to pay their union fees if the union is not going to support new talent? Quite a bad value proposition. What a lack of vision from all those who thought this was a great idea. It’s time for a new generation of leadership in the Swedish Film Industry that is outside of institutional thinking, a new approach and commitment to an independent industry where screen entrepreneurs and creatives from all media platforms have a part of the story and a stake in it.

Bojkott!!!

And so our baby was born: shiny, vibrant and ready to guide young artists in their starting process 💪🚀. Unfortunately, talent alone is not enough to make it in the music industry: how to get money to buy that particular instrument and how to have it insured ? How to find the way to the stage and determine a price ? What about international contracts, how to apply for subsidies, how to obtain a VAT and entrepreneur number ? How to establish an international network, find a rehearsal space and record music ? Brand new "Flagency" is the answer to all those questions, and a lot more: BNP Paribas Fortis and its cultural partner Flagey are joining forces to guide and advise young artists financially and artistically: a golden team with a brilliant mission that involves a lot of music 🖤.

Senior Consultant Energy and Sustainability at Royal HaskoningDHV, TU/e Fellow at Eindhoven University of Technology
High #energy and related #CO2 emission reductions possible in #operating #theatres!! A recent survey among 51 Dutch Hospitals reveals that operating theatres often operate in the highest class independent of the type surgery executed at that time. Therefore depending on the type of operation switching ventilation systems from the highest class with more than 60 air changes per hour, which is only required for intensive orthopedic surgery, to the next highest class with less but still 20 air changes is key to achieve significant energy and CO2 emission reductions. Next steps in this research of Landelijk Netwerk de Groene OK where Royal HaskoningDHV is involved together with TNO, Delft University of Technology, UMC Utrecht, Leiden University Medical Center and other hospital organisations is to execute measurements in operating theatres to determine the application and effectiveness of proposed measures in practice. See for more information and other measures to save energy in operating theatres the just published article (NL) about the survey below and an earlier published paper in the REHVA Journal with a literature study: https://lnkd.in/ev745iAB

What if I told you that I am going to be in an Amazon-themed theater play in the biggest circus tent in Berlin? Wait, what did you just read? Yes, Amazon’s coming to the stage… 🎭 This all happened when an award-winning theater director Daniel Wetzel of the Rimini Protokoll approached me in Berlin at one of the ScaleForEtail events I've done this year and asked me if I wanted to contribute to his play. I was so thrilled to have the opportunity to be included in such a play, and I immediately said yes! Daniel and his cast has put up a play called La Dance d’Amazon, a careful and in-depth exploration of the Amazon world, and how the community that surrounds it – sellers, logistics providers, customers, and service providers – has been changed immeasurably as a result. 🌍 The fascinating production focuses on consumerism and the effect that it has on our lives. 🛍️ Alongside with one of the thought leaders from the Amazon industry Sebastian "The Connector" Herz (贺思安)– and, get this – circus performers 🎪 , we are going to share the stage in front of the audience for 4 days! It’s a full-on theater play that has a very relevant theme… 🎟️ That will take place, and this is the best part: inside the biggest circus tent in Berlin. 🇩🇪 A circus production all about the circus of Amazon. Could anything be more poetic? 🤹 Our minds are blown. 🤯 We consume knowledge to help us improve our game at Amazon all the time. 💡 Conferences. Podcasts. Webinars. But have you ever been to the circus to learn more? 🎪 It’s time to. ⏰ We’re all performers on Jeff Bezos’s stage…but this time, an award-winning director brings something truly innovative to light, while still reminding us all of the best practices to help us improve our selling journey. 🌟 Don’t miss it. 🚫 https://lnkd.in/d6c2EBd5 Catch me in Berlin from the 23rd to 26th of November and I would love to see you at the play! Definitely worth checking out. ✨ #amazonfba #amazonsellers #amazoneurope
