📢 Public Consultation Extension: VCMI's beta Scope 3 Claim Management and reduction of scope 3 emissions is a critical issue for a wide range of organisations working on climate action. There has been a lot of interest in VCMI’s public consultation on its beta Scope 3 Claim, so we have decided to extend the consultation period to 21 October 2024. This extension ensures a wide range of stakeholders can provide input and ensure the consultation is inclusive and representative. It also provides an opportunity to share input and help shape a robust and fully operable framework for companies facing genuine challenges in scope 3 emissions reductions. Your voice is critical in shaping a high-integrity approach that supports companies to go further and faster on additional greenhouse gas emission reductions, providing practical solutions to maintain momentum and increase transparency while companies work towards their scope 3 decarbonization targets. The UK Government confirms its intent to consult on reforms designed to strengthen the #VoluntaryCarbonMarket 🌱📋 Last week, Climate Minister Kerry McCarthy indicated the government aims to realise the potential offered by carbon and nature markets by implementing rules to address concerns around the integrity of #carboncredit projects, helping boost investment in the sector. 🗨 "Carbon and #nature markets hold the potential to play an essential role in achieving our climate and environmental targets faster, raising #climatefinance, and supporting enhanced ambition," she said. "The UK will soon consult on steps we could take to raise #integrity in these markets so they realise more of their potential." Time is short to move the fight against #climate change forward. 📣🌳 The Brazilian state of Pará, home to 25% of the Amazon rainforest, is set to secure $180 million in climate finance from the #LEAFCoalition via the purchase of high-quality #carboncredits that meet Architecture for REDD Transactions (ART) standards. The proceeds from this landmark agreement will fund programs to further reduce deforestation and support Indigenous Peoples, sharing economic benefits with local communities and family farmers on the front line in the battle against deforestation. We’re thrilled to congratulate Rachel Kyte, VCMI Co-Chair, on her appointment as UK Special Representative for Climate 🎉 There is no better person to lead the UK’s efforts on climate diplomacy, and forge efforts to tackling the dual #climate and #nature crises. Her role will focus on coordinating the UK’s relations with other donor countries, as well as building relationships with developing economies in the Global South.    🎤🌍 In a fireside chat with Tariye Gbadegesin and Bill Winters at Wednesday's #VCM Day event, Rachel Kyte explored how to advance buy-in for integrity in carbon markets, as well as how to scale up high-quality projects with substantial social and environmental benefits — recognizing that while #carbonmarkets are not the sole solution to the climate crisis, they are a critical piece.   In an interview with The Guardian, Rachel said: “This government is committed to reconnecting the UK to the world with #climateaction as a priority. And the world is being shaped politically and economically by climate change. This provides an opportunity to use international action to help deliver on the UK’s energy mission. And it provides challenges, not least in mobilising the financing to protect people and drive greener growth.
