This morning, VCMI's Technical Manager Aisha Rodriguez took the stage at the Reuters Sustainability Europe conference to discuss the role of #carboncredits in transition plans. 💡 One key takeaway: #scope3 emissions remain the major unresolved challenge of corporate #climateaction. 📣 That’s why VCMI is seeking stakeholder input on its beta Scope 3 Claim, to refine and strengthen a tool that empowers companies to take swift action on climate: https://lnkd.in/edwkT5JB Reuters Events Sustainable Business #SustainabilityEurope
Following a week of fantastic conversations and events in New York, I'm back in London and will be attending a host of events this month. Kicking off with a great panel discussion this morning on the role of carbon credits in climate transition plans, alongside Magnus Drewelies from CEEZER and Elena Pravettoni from the Energy Transitions Commission. We discussed: - Landscape analysis of the different approaches to using carbon credits and associated claims - How companies are making decisions around credits and considerations around risk and rewards - Role of credits in addressing scope 3 - Initiatives driving integrity in the VCM (namely VCMI & The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM)) - The interplay between voluntary and compliance markets Hope to catch you some of you at Carbon Forward next week!

The UK Government confirms its intent to consult on reforms designed to strengthen the #VoluntaryCarbonMarket 🌱📋 Last week, Climate Minister Kerry McCarthy indicated the government aims to realise the potential offered by carbon and nature markets by implementing rules to address concerns around the integrity of #carboncredit projects, helping boost investment in the sector. 🗨 "Carbon and #nature markets hold the potential to play an essential role in achieving our climate and environmental targets faster, raising #climatefinance, and supporting enhanced ambition," she said. "The UK will soon consult on steps we could take to raise #integrity in these markets so they realise more of their potential." Time is short to move the fight against #climate change forward. Governments must implement regulations that incentivize companies to act, based on clear rules and definitions. 📝 VCMI’s Claims Code provides a high-integrity standard with international recognition. 📖 We urge governments use it to develop policy in a harmonized way, and commend the UK Government for taking action to provide the leadership, direction and support needed to grow the market. 🔗🗞 Read more in Bloomberg Green: https://lnkd.in/dw6uupmc #VCM #VCMs #CarbonMarkets #ClimateAction #CarbonCredits

We’re thrilled to congratulate Rachel Kyte, VCMI Co-Chair, on her appointment as UK Special Representative for Climate 🎉 There is no better person to lead the UK’s efforts on climate diplomacy, and forge efforts to tackling the dual #climate and #nature crises. Her role will focus on coordinating the UK’s relations with other donor countries, as well as building relationships with developing economies in the Global South. 🎤🌍 In a fireside chat with Tariye Gbadegesin and Bill Winters at Wednesday's #VCM Day event, Rachel Kyte explored how to advance buy-in for integrity in carbon markets, as well as how to scale up high-quality projects with substantial social and environmental benefits — recognizing that while #carbonmarkets are not the sole solution to the climate crisis, they are a critical piece. In an interview with The Guardian, Rachel said: “This government is committed to reconnecting the UK to the world with #climateaction as a priority. And the world is being shaped politically and economically by climate change. This provides an opportunity to use international action to help deliver on the UK’s energy mission. And it provides challenges, not least in mobilising the financing to protect people and drive greener growth. There is no time like now for the UK to help drive action and I am excited to play my part in this new role.” 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eg22hm2a #ClimateWeekNYC #ClimateLeadership #VoluntaryCarbonMarkets #VCMs #VCM #ClimateWeek2024
