❓ Did you know that the events industry is responsible for 10% of global CO2 emissions… ❓ It’s a lot. As much as we love this industry, it’s clear: events are wasteful. So, it’s important that we do our bit to create more sustainable events. Like the one we ran in May… Our client approached us to create an internal event that had three core objectives: 🌎 Make sustainable choices throughout the event design 🌎 Reduce, reuse and recycle materials where possible 🌎 Identify opportunities to minimise environmental impacts So, we set about doing that by implementing a range of sustainable measures, including working with a sustainably focused venue in Doncaster Racecourse and Exhibition Centre, building reusable assets, utilising energy efficient sets and lighting, arranging coaches to minimise travel emissions, using recyclable serveware and creating an event app and recyclable badges to reduce paper. Then, we tracked everything through TRACE, an award-winning carbon emissions platform created by isla, the events industry’s sustainability body. Doing that, allowed us to track all waste and emissions and the results were incredible: 🥇 85.2% of materials were reused, donated or repurposed 🥇 Only 6.4% of the total waste ended up at landfill And there’s still more we could do. Thankfully, we’re committed to delivering more responsible and sustainable events for our clients and the world. So, if you’ve got a focus on your carbon footprint but still want to create an event with an impact, we can help. Alignment with our core purpose and values is not just a nice-to-have; it's the very essence of creating a unique and meaningful experience. It's about adding less harm and inspiring more positive change. Lately, I've been deeply immersed in the world of StartUps, where the buzzwords of #circularity and #sustainability are gaining more and more momentum. These concepts are not just trends; they're the driving force of #impact. Today, I want to share a post that resonates with this ethos - and as a participant of the event. It offers tangible #solutions for event organization that can make a real difference, all without compromising on quality or diminishing the overall experience. Consider this: „… ❌ Giveaways or other single-use items in the Start-up Area were prohibited. 🥬 Our food choices were conscious, featuring a veggie-only menu, organic ingredients, and seasonal produce. We even sourced some rescued food from Community Kitchen München. 👕 Our team shirts weren't purchased new; instead, we rented them from RE-SHIRT, a company specializing in reversible prints. This simple decision saved a staggering 175,000 liters of water and reduced our carbon footprint by 700 kg compared to buying new cotton t-shirts. …“ It's inspiring to see how such small shifts in our choices can create a significant impact. The feel of the CIRCULAR REPUBLIC Festival been so different: Trash and clutter reduction created a clean space for focus, creativity and real conversation. Being less bombarded with banner and poster advertising made it easier to orientate within the event space. ... 👉 Read the full post and share it with your event management team. It's a reminder that every action counts, and it's entirely possible to create an event that aligns with your purpose while being environmentally conscious. Together, we can change the game and show that sustainability is not just a buzzword but a way of life. 🌿🌍💪 #Sustainability #CircularEvents #PurposeDriven #eventmanagement
Did you know that, on average, an event visitor produces two kilos of waste, and their average GHG footprint corresponds to around 37 kg of CO2? (EnergieAgentur.NRW 2019) The increasing number of conferences (especially after COVID-19) is putting an enormous strain on our environment. But no longer holding events at all is not an option either because they offer opportunities to exchange ideas, connect, and initiate transformative discussions… beyond LinkedIn… Are you wondering how to organize your next event more sustainably? This was also very much on our minds when organizing #CRF23. We are not perfect, but here are a few efforts we have taken to make our festival a little more environmentally friendly. ➡ Mobility We have strongly encouraged everyone to use public transport, and for our participants and speakers, we have offered a Deutsche Bahn train ticket at a reduced/fixed price! ➡ Catering Our food was veggie-only, organic, seasonal, and partly from rescued food shout out to Community Kitchen München. 🥬 We used reusable or compostable dishes, thanks to Re:Drink. 🥛🍽️ ➡ Materials 📑 We reduced printed posters, signs, and flyers to a minimum. 🗑️ We designed beachflags, banners, lanyards and moderation cards in a neutral way to enable reuse and to minimize waste. ❌ Giveaways or other single-use items in the Start-up Area were prohibited. 🪴 The beautiful plants in the pots were rented out for our event. 👕 Our team shirts were rented from RE-SHIRT, who work with reversible prints. Thus, we were able to save 175,000 liters of water and 700 kg of CO2 compared to buying new cotton t-shirts. 🧶🐠 Our lanyards were produced by SEAQUAL INITIATIVE and sourced from ocean plastic. Also, we tried to collect as many lanyards back as possible after the event to reuse them! The external event agency ECENT, which focuses on implementing sustainability holistically into events, helped determine and implement these measures. 🙏 Further things to keep in mind: 🏘️ Venue: especially in terms of transport access, energy use, suppliers, and infrastructure. 📽️ Technical Equipment: depending on your tech, a lot of energy is used during the event! 🧮 Calculating Emissions and Resource Streams → Deriving a plan of action to improve! 📣 COMMUNICATION! Be transparent about your hurdles and showcase your best practices! We believe that sometimes these are the smaller measures that must be taken to make a really significant impact! 💚 What are your thoughts on that? What would you do better next time in our place? 🤔 #sustainableevents #zerowaste #walkthetalk #circularfestival

Should event venues charge extra for sustainable alternatives? Some venues opt for a ""green fee"" for eco-friendly measures and materials, while others include sustainability practices in their regular services—like recycling bins, renewable energy, and locally sourced catering—at no extra cost. On one hand, it helps cover higher costs and promotes conscious choices, ensuring resources are fairly allocated. But on the flip side, it might hinder access to eco-friendly options and slow down their adoption. Imagine if sustainability was the norm, no extra fee required! It could drive widespread use, showcase social responsibility, and make a real impact on our planet. Finding the balance between cost and sustainability is crucial! Would you be willing to pay extra for sustainable event products and services? Let's discuss! #MeetingManagement #EventPlanning #MeetingVenue #GreenMeetings #SustainableEvents #EventVenue

It’s the Great Big Green Week, and the spotlight is back on our industry’s efforts to help tackle climate change. There are plenty of things we can be doing – some small, and some requiring much greater effort and focus – to make sure that our work in live events is part of the solution, not part of the problem. At the simpler end of the scale, issuing our teams with sustainability checklists makes for quick wins – eliminating single use plastics and plastic-based shipping materials, ensuring print items are minimised, recycled and recyclable, managing the use of lanyards and wristbands – there are dozens of seemingly minor and easily-identified red flags that we can watch out for when planning every project, that over the course of a year’s business can make a huge difference. The challenges get tougher when working with venues. There’s a wide disparity, even among the UK’s top conference centres, between those who work sustainably and those who only say they do. Can they tell you how they source their power, do they have a clean energy policy and will they allow you to see it, how do they recycle their waste, do they use non-toxic cleaning agents and detergents, what water- and electricity-saving measures do they have in place? There’s a long list of questions we need to be asking – and the more companies that ask these questions, the greater the number of venues that will shift to more measurable and sustainable operations. During the Great Big Green Week, let’s pioneer sustainable event planning together. Share your green event tips and inspire others to join the movement! 🌱 #GreatBigGreenWeek #GreenEvents #Sustainability #TFILodestar #MakeADifference

Sustainable Event Production | Carbon Capitalisation | Data Driven Initiatives | Active in 8 states of Northeastern India | Sustainable Tourism Initiatives
Traditional event production often relies heavily on non-sustainable materials like flex banners, plastic decorations, and other single-use items. These practices, while visually appealing, have a detrimental impact on the environment. Here's why big events should prioritize sustainable production methods: Environmental Impact: The use of flex and plastic materials contributes to pollution, both during their production and after they are discarded. Plastic waste, in particular, takes centuries to decompose, posing a severe threat to ecosystems and wildlife. Resource Depletion: Traditional event production consumes significant amounts of resources, including non-renewable ones like fossil fuels for transportation and energy. This contributes to resource depletion and exacerbates climate change. Waste Generation: Large events generate enormous amounts of waste, much of which ends up in landfills or incinerators. This not only leads to the loss of valuable resources but also increases the carbon footprint of the event. Public Perception: In an era where environmental concerns are paramount, hosting an event that disregards sustainability can harm an organization's reputation. Event attendees and the public increasingly expect responsible and eco-conscious practices. Regulatory Pressure: Governments and local authorities are introducing stricter regulations and policies aimed at reducing environmental harm. Non-compliance can result in fines and legal issues for event organizers. Cost Savings: Sustainable event production can lead to cost savings in the long run. Reusable materials, energy-efficient technologies, and waste reduction strategies can lower expenses while also benefiting the environment. Innovation and Differentiation: Adopting sustainable practices can set events apart from the competition. It allows for creative and innovative approaches to event design and production, which can be a major draw for attendees. Community Engagement: Hosting an environmentally responsible event can foster a sense of community and engagement among attendees, sponsors, and participants who share these values. In conclusion, transitioning to sustainable event production methods is not only an ethical choice but also a strategic one. By reducing environmental harm and embracing eco-friendly practices, big events can safeguard the planet, meet regulatory requirements, save costs, and enhance their reputation. This shift towards sustainability is not just a trend; it's a necessity for the future of event production. #sustainability #sustainableevents #saynotoplastic #reducecarbonfootprint
