The U.S. Navy Weighs-In on Kirkpatrick Wire Rope Systems: The Naval Air Systems Command – Chief of Naval Operations Pre-production Evaluation Final Report concluded that the Kirkpatrick Model SU35B Wire Rope Lubricator evaluated during the project appeared to have significant potential for reducing material usage and waste disposal costs. Significant labor savings were found to be possible due to the reduced labor required to perform cable cleaning and lubricating events. “Of equal importance, the wire rope lubrication system is a safer alternative than the previous method used because it does not require personnel to place grease on their gloves and wipe the crane cable. The cost analysis showed a 10-year return on investment (ROI) of approximately $135,900.60 and a breakeven point of .41 years,” according to the Navy’s report. #naval #chief #report #kirkpatrickwireropesystem #saving #effeciency #ports #miningindustry #shippingindustry #cranes #offshore #labor #dynagard #drilling #wirerope #maintenance #safety

Very interesting take by CAPT John Konrad (retired) on the focus of the US Navy and senior leaders. I’d offer that the problem identified is endemic through the whole of the naval complex. The entire Program Objective Memorandum (POM) is too bureaucratic and cumbersome with little to no agility or accountability. POM affects every aspect of Navy spending from operations, builds, systems and manpower. https://lnkd.in/empWdRtS

The USS Boxer, an amphibious assault ship crucial for rapid deployment of United States Marine Corps forces, is facing mechanical issues, leaving the US Navy uncertain about the timeline for repairs. The ship encountered problems shortly after its deployment to the Indo-Pacific and had to return to San Diego. Currently docked at US Naval Station San Diego, the Navy is still determining the most efficient approach for executing the repairs. The repair process might be further complicated by the congestion at San Diego ship repair yards, as the piers capable of accommodating the USS Boxer are occupied by other warships. There is also speculation about the possibility of sending the ship to a shipyard in Oregon or Washington. This situation highlights a significant challenge for the Navy, as the ship maintenance backlog has grown to $1.8 billion, with deferred maintenance on critical systems becoming increasingly common. The USS Boxer, which has experienced various mechanical problems in recent years, plays a crucial role in projecting Marines ashore. #USSBoxer #Navy #ShipRepair #MechanicalIssues #AmphibiousAssaultShip #IndoPacific #MarineForces #NavyMaintenance #NavalOperations

Seas the day! 🌊🚢 Great news for South Australia’s naval shipbuilding industry! Osborne Naval Shipyard has today been confirmed as the continuous build location for major tier 1 surface combatant ships for the Royal Australian Navy. The shipbuilding program includes the Hunter Class Frigates that will commence this year until 2043, immediately followed by the replacement program for the Hobart class destroyers. The Hunter Class Frigates will sustain at least 2,000 jobs and create an additional 500 over the next decade. This, combined with more than 4,000 estimated direct jobs for the AUKUS nuclear-powered submarines, and thousands more across supply chains, cyber, land and aerospace domains, provides long term certainty for the state’s defence industry workforce. The future of Canada's navy is taking shape with the River-class destroyers, a fleet set to redefine our nation's maritime combat power. This ambitious project is a historic investment in the Royal Canadian Navy's capabilities, ensuring the protection of Canada's waters and continued contributions to international naval operations. Based on the British Type-26, Canada has significantly modified the combat systems to future-proof the ship and make it more interoperable with our allies and NORAD. This is the best overview of the class that I've read in the context in allied naval renewal. What do you think of Canada's approach?

Slight edit: quality maintenance matters. And commands like TRF and TTF do an amazing job teaching that. However as we all know, nothing beats learning first time quality maintenance practices hands on down on the deck plate.

New CNO Must Act Early Typically a new Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) will take the first year to assess what the status of the fleet is and then act. Time is in short supply for this and what the Navy needs most is obvious to those in uniform - leadership and action. Moreover, having been the Vice CNO, the new CNO knows the gaps the current fleet needs to fill. So act and act boldly! The message attached was as expected short on specifics, an update to the current NAVPLAN is called for. A NAVPLAN, or navigational plan, lays out the priorities and path forward for the Navy in the near-term. A new NAVPLAN should provide an action plan for fixing critical shortages in shipyard capacities, expand efforts in recruitment, investments in growing the fleet needed not continue a managed decline and eventual loss of deterrence and more likely war. Lastly, the new CNO should engage the USCG and MARAD and address the critical shortage in commercial shipping needed to sustain a military at war as well as a wartime economy grown overly reliant on non-friendly shipping to keep the factories humming and lights on.

It is always great to see sites where there is a strong hand protection policy in place so that regardless of who attends site they are issued with Traffi gloves. The UK Secretary of State for Defence was issued with a pair of Traffi TG6240 gloves for his dockside visit. The unique, Traffi 🚦 traffic light system makes it simple, a green glove means Cut D/A4 or higher. While the Defence Secretary's task is to keep the country safe, our task is to keep hands safe! This is to ensure those critical jobs can be carried out safely day in and day out with workers returning home safely each day. The Traffi system proven to reduce hand injuries by up to 94%. https://lnkd.in/ep8bz3-t https://lnkd.in/g3XuSnHJ With Traffi, while reducing hand injuries you can also reduce Planetary Costs with our certified Carbon Neutral glove range. #sustainable #handprotection #Gloves #PPE #handsafety #carbonneutral #inclusive #colourcoded
In shipyards across the UK our future Royal Navy is being built. In total 28 ships & submarines will be built as part of a new golden era of British shipbuilding. Not only will this keep us safe, it will also transform local economies by supporting tens of thousands of jobs.
