When Chinese companies expand #overseas, what are the crucial 'first hires' they #recruit to ensure they set up a foundation for #success? Apart from key in-country positions such as Country Manager or General Manager, or senior roles in Sales, BD or Marketing, Operations, and even Legal Counsel...HR is considered a very important early hire that a company must get right to ensure they set up a foundation for success. Importance of #HR as an early hire when expanding overseas: - Ensure compliance with local labor laws. - Develop HR policies that align with corporate goals as well as local dynamics. - Build an 'A Team' of early hires and a #workculture that will attract more 'A' players to join. Chinese #Internet and #tech companies, in particular, need the right HR leader to ensure their talent pipeline can keep pace with their overseas business development. According to Xin Zhang, a CGL Senior Consultant who focuses on recruiting for mid-to-high-end positions in HR and marketing for cutting-edge #technology sectors, such as Internet/web3, in #Europe, the #Americas, and #AsiaPacific region, companies should consider the different stages of their development when selecting suitable candidates for HR positions. Start-ups with Overseas Business Scale of Less Than 100 People (0-1 Stage): For start-ups in the early stages of overseas business development (0-1 stage) with a #business scale of less than 100 people, candidates with about 5 years of experience are recommended for HR positions. Gradual Expansion of Overseas Business (1-10 stage): As the company's overseas business gradually expands (1-10 stages), candidates with about 8-10 years are suitable. Mature Enterprises with Considerable Scale Overseas: Mature enterprises that already have a considerable scale overseas may need to recruit junior HR business partners (HRBPs) as well as higher-level overseas HR leaders. The #salary for these positions varies greatly depending on the rank, ranging from over US$200,000 to $700,000 annually. Given the accelerated pace of #overseasexpansion of Chinese enterprises, CGL's overseas search business recorded a year-on-year increase of 20% in 2023, serving 131 enterprises and placing 189 positions. In line with this, CGL Consulting Co., Ltd. strategically expanded its talent services in 2023 to cover major economies across the #Americas, #Europe, and #SoutheastAsia, assembling a dedicated virtual overseas team of 40 highly skilled professionals. This movement isn't just about companies spreading their wings; it's about creating global opportunities for Mainland Chinese talents to join these ventures in new markets. 🚀 What's driving this trend? Two key factors: 1️⃣ Increased Interest in Overseas Opportunities: There's a growing appetite among Chinese professionals to explore careers abroad. This isn't just about seeking new challenges; it's about being part of a global narrative. 2️⃣ Relocation and Expansion: As Chinese companies plant flags on foreign soil, the need for familiar talent to guide these operations has become evident. While outbound-focused recruitment teams based in China are currently covering much of this demand, we foresee a shift. The future points towards an increased need for 'boots on the ground' – local teams in these overseas markets that understand both the local dynamics and the unique needs of Chinese enterprises. 🤝 Let's Collaborate and Make Global Mobility Easier Our goal is to streamline this global mobility.
