In this case study example we see potential savings of £2,000-£3,000, a reduction in pace of play of ~2 minutes, potential reductions in the total area of finely maintained turf and improvements to playability and golfer satisfaction. All for just a single hole.... 😎 Here, the placement of the bunkers and angle of the green caused problems all the way back to the tee. Nearly half of golfers found themselves laying up into and around a fairway bunker, from where they would have to wait for the green (~70yds away) to clear. Our data showed very few golfers were actually able to hold the green from this lay up position, resulting in significant pace of play backlogs. The hole ranks among the least popular for golfers due to its difficulty and this data shows why. A restructuring or removal of the greenside and lay-up area bunkers (at the very least) would ease pace of play problems, improve playability and heighten golfer satisfaction. Further solutions discussed included removing the lay up bunker entirely and instead creating a divide in the fairway to visually encourage play to the left, leaving a better angle to the green. This would include an area of lightly mown rough dividing the fairway, adding interest to the lay-up, encouraging play from the preferable left side, reducing pace of play and improving golfer satisfaction. Ultimately, the decision of 'what to do' comes down to the club, but our data outlines the clear problems with the current bunker layout, why it ranks poorly for golfer satisfaction and pace of play, and provides invaluable insights into how it might be improved. "ASK JW"Global Synthetic Turf Expert SGW/TenCate Technical Advisor, Writer / Author “ASK JW” Inventor/Superseam/Turf Brush, Expert Witness, Lead Instructor STC Landscape Certification
Golfers, we all know the feeling of frustration when a putt stops short of dropping in the hole for a birdie or an eagle. But did you know that there's a way to minimize this frustration? Synthetic turf installers, take note of the 3’ (three feet) rule recommended by experienced installers. A smooth and imperfection-free compacted subbase within 3 feet around the cup can make all the difference in ensuring that the golf ball plays true and lessening the frustration of a bogey. If you are sleeving, concreting, or placing putting green cups in dirt… it is crucial to follow this rule and make sure the area around putting green cups are smooth without imperfections. Also if you are choosing to use concrete or mortar? …make sure you use a special concrete/mortar mix that will survive the harsh freezing temperatures to prevent frost heave. (Reach out if you need a mix design) Longevity is the goal. The vibration alone from the flag stick going in and out causes movement. Let's make our rounds of golf more enjoyable and less frustrating for all by ensuring your grading acknowledges this. Questions? Or need a training? Give me a shout. 888-846-3598 #askjw #doublebogey #helpingotherssucceed

Today, over 160,000 spectators donning view-blocking hats and loud pattern combinations will descend onto Churchill Downs and watch 20 horses run for at least two minutes. There’s a chance the winning horse takes a few seconds longer to cross the finish line, but it’s unlikely it will finish sooner. The legendary horse Secretariat still holds the record for fastest Derby ever from 1973, clocking in at 1:59.4. And winning horse times have stayed pretty stagnant for the last 50 years. A couple reasons why we likely won’t see a one-minute race: The Derby’s outcome relies heavily on weather conditions. The ideal climate for a race day is hot and dry, but rain has attended the Derby more often, and thunderstorms are predicted for this evening. A 2008 study found thoroughbreds may have hit their peak physicality. Decades of selective breeding has led to 95% of the breed descending from a single Arabian horse. Meanwhile on a different track…human runners are smashing records faster than you can say mint julep. The men’s 100m world record has been met or beaten 20 times since 1973. Chalk it up to better advancements in training equipment, nutrition, and humans’ willingness to do just about anything to get ahead.

I am not fully aware of the whole story, but this is an interesting article! I suggest to read this as I find the potential a small US ski resort has to market its own interesting products remarkable!
