Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is an integrated system of #smart #meters, communication networks, and data management systems designed to modernize and optimize the collection, monitoring, and management of utility consumption data. It’s a technology-driven approach to gather detailed information about energy, water, or gas consumption at various intervals and transmit this data to utility providers for analysis and decision-making. #AMI is a critical tool in the advancement of utility services, enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and customer satisfaction in the management of essential resources.

The principles of #energy #data being made securely and simply available is fundamental to enabling and achieving #netzero. We’ve a very clear strategy at SMS plc to deploy, manage and get the most out of #smart #meters and their data. It’s been a real focus over the last two years, with investment into n3rgy being key and it’s really exciting to be driving this! This article talks of a “dedicated data institution” to support the governance of energy data… Which makes me wonder why Matthew Roderick and I have been working with Smart Energy Code (SEC) for the half dozen changes we’ve been pushing though governance over the last 2 years to do as this article suggests… The success of energy data. Is only ever going to be as successful as the smart meter ecosystems performance - let’s focus on that before introducing new ways to govern the output https://lnkd.in/eeS3A8P6

"Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) is no longer a collection of digital meters that handles a limited amount of data and a few routine tasks. AMI 2.0 is a powerful edge-computing network. Offering real-time data and more control over energy usage, next-gen AMI empower consumers, and helps utilities build a resilient grid with a reduced carbon footprint." https://lnkd.in/eBz7a-sg #energy #advancedmeteringinfrastructure #industrials

Utilities digital transformation, Consumers trends and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) 2.0 NEM 1.0, NEM 2.0 and NEM 3.0 are rate hike responses of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to the widespread implementation of the solar panels installation and the demand of Electric Vehicles (EV) fueled by federal incentives to reach decarbonization targets while protecting the utilities organizations. As the consumers are becoming tech savvy and on the priority and mind of the Utility organizations, the objective is to provide the consumers access to real-time consumption data and trends which will drive the utilities business strategy to focus on digital transformation. To start the digital transformation, it is important to capture the lesson learned from many of the first round of AMI implementations that some of it might not achieved all the promised benefits then understand the current landscape of today’s AMI technological advances and in particular AMI 2.0 The future is bright. #smartgrid #decarbonization #utilityindustry #cleanenergy

We would like to invite you to our webinar titled ‘Transforming Power: Are Smart Meters Redefining Efficiency?’ on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 – 4:00 – 5:00 PM IST. Registration Link: https://lnkd.in/gqvr8E29 In January 2016, the Ministry of Power mandated phased smart meter installation vide its Tariff Policy. This effort received substantial support from schemes like the Integrated Power Development Scheme and the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana. The Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme gave it a major push, through sanction of ~23 crore meters as on December 31, 2023. This move, aimed at enhancing the operational and financial performance of power distribution companies, has led to increased capital expenditure across the sector, including meter manufacturing and Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP) projects under PPP models. With the introduction of Structured Payment Mechanism and other supportive measures, substantial opportunities for AMISPs and sustainability solutions for the power distribution sector are emerging. CareEdge Ratings invites you to a webinar to discuss the implementation progress, opportunities, and challenges, featuring insights from industry experts. Key topics to be covered: ➡ Operational trends in the power distribution sector ➡ Smart metering growth: Drivers and obstacles ➡ AMISP model: Economic analysis ➡ CareEdge Ratings’ sector outlook #CareEdgeInsights #CareEdgeAt30 #CareEdgeWebinars #SmartMetering

🏗️What is the Common Information Model? During a recent event, Nicolas Richet, ENTSO-E's Chief Information Officer and Secretary of the Digital Committee delivered a highly engaging talk on the fundamental building blocks of the Common Information Model (CIM) and its significance. For those unfamiliar with it, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) is an organisation that fosters cooperation among #electricity transmission system operators across the continent. As Nicolas aptly described it, ENTSO-E functions as a cyber-physical system of interconnected systems, representing a remarkable advancement in energy resilience due to the interconnected grids operated by each TSO. ENTSO-E has been at the forefront of #data exchange between operators, and as #digital transformation continues, the volume of traffic is expected to rise. In this context, IEC CIM can be summed up in one word: INTEROPERABILITY. With the support of member TSOs, IEC CIM has been established as the backbone for the data exchange #model. It facilitates various functions such as market data exchanges, system operations, and development, relying on a set of specialized standards (e.g., IEC 61970, 61968, 62325). In practical terms, the implementation of this architecture enables timely coordination of energy supply balancing at the continental level. Regionally, integration occurs at the end of each TSO as they adapt their systems to the CIM-based Common Grid Model (CGM) format. This application allows for the interconnection of all TSO assets, as a digital simulation is created and can be adjusted based on the requirements of the continental grid. Moreover, it is essential to note that the CGM builds upon the Smart Grid Architecture Models (SGAM) model aligned with IEC CIM. Considering the ongoing technological development and the increasing demand for renewable integration, the standardisation features of IEC CIM for data and system information exchange will continue to grow.
