Last week, we had the VCA summit organized this year by Kadri Lindpere and the Estonian Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (EstVCA) (by far the best LP-GP event in the Baltics). It was held in Pärnu (a tiny coastal seaside city, which was a huge surprise, as the art community is on the 📈 there - must visit) For me, the coolest and most relatable exhibition was by a Group called Non Grata. It is a group of Estonian artists who, as described by curator Joseph Raves—are the contrarians of the art world—building an institution in its own right. What’s cool - they have their own rules. They are called Contemporary Survival Rules. I related to almost all of them. Non Grata proposes the idea that we, as human beings, are operating on outdated instructions for survival from 2000 years ago. Along with religious indoctrination, our behavior is obsolete, and our existence is doomed. Humans need new survival rules. They are the following: 1. Be Connected 2. Be Involved 3. Do Not Whine, Change it 4. Plan ahead to live in the moment 5. Be Self Sufficient 6. Do it, just do it 7. Create your own environment 8. Speak Clearly, Loud & Wide 9. Make Every Act as Last One 10. Do not consume. Create yourself. DIY 11. Do not expect to be invited back 12. Do not compare 13. Never Take a Day Job 14. Escape your comfort zone It's pretty simple, but probs simplicity is critical. Applies well in building any business/institution in modern times, including a VC firm. The European Commission has launched the Just Transition Mechanism, mobilizing around €55 billion ($62 billion) from 2021-2027 to provide targeted support to the most affected regions and alleviate the socioeconomic impact of the energy transition.
