You might be wondering what Music Industry Trends we expect to be flooded with in the next 11 months 🤔 Drawing insights from my experience and observations within the music industry, particularly through interactions with music professionals and engagement with blogs created by Ditto Music LANDR Audio Inc. and Skiddle. I’ve identified 3 trends that are ready to take off in 2024. 🤖 AI Music In 2023, the music industry took steps to prepare for the impact of Music AI. This year, we may see more artists and producers embrace using AI to reshape their music and connect with wider audiences. However, challenges arise, in the realm of copyright laws. As we navigate the path that AI unfolds, safeguarding the interests of human artists should remain a top priority, always. 🎫 Immersive Artist-To-Fan Experiences The societal impact of Covid, particularly on the entertainment industry, has forged a need to form stronger, lasting connections with audiences. Consider Pinkpanthress' brand activation for her album 'Heaven Knows.' The SATELLITE414 team organised a unique meet-and-greet with fans at an escape room in London. The event not only allowed fans to connect with the artist but also created an immersive experience that resonated with the central themes of the album. I’m excited to see how music artists, especially independent ones, will elevate their fan interactions with alignment to their message, values, and brand in 2024! 🌍 Music Globalisation Witnessing the rise of genres such as Kpop, Afrobeats and Amapiano, we see the transformative impact of globalisation on the music industry. Noteworthy examples include (Nigerian Native) Rema's collaboration with Selena Gomez and artists like (Swati Native) Uncle Waffles introducing the popular South African genre Amapiano to international stages. South African artist, Tyla’s mega-viral single 'Water,' a fusion of Amapiano, R&B, and Afrobeats. Which she coined as 'popiano,' during an interview with Rolling Stones. In 2024, anticipate artists around the globe collaborating to create groundbreaking music that unifies us all. 🎧What music trends are you most looking forward to in the new year? How do you think these trends will reshape our collective music experience in 2024? Share your thoughts! 🎶 #musicindustry #musictrends #musicbusiness #musicbiz #musicnews

Not only am I the founder of a music tech startup that empowers and monetizes human music IP in the age of AI. I'm also a music artist with over 72GB and 19 thousand music files of my own music IP lying dormant in my hard-drive. The time is upon us where countless other music creators and rights holders with music IP, can now leverage and monetize terabytes upon terabytes of their released/unreleased music through Uhmbrella. GENAI music is here, we empower the creator to lean in and stamp their music so we can track attribution of their assets, while allowing creators to OPT in or out of GENAI music apps and platforms. Music creation is rapidly becoming more democratized. We empower the musically talented to leverage that. While giving anyone and everyone the tools to create music that supports human creativity on a scale never before seen. There's a storm coming. get under the Uhmbrella. #genai #ai #music #musicrights #musictech

4 years ago, Max Tiel and I founded Thunderboom Records as a non-profit to empower music artists in the rapidly-changing digital music industry. Our goal was – and still is – to make sure that AI is always enriching our human creativity instead of harming it. With the rise of Suno, our mission is more relevant than ever: 🖤 Open Letter An open letter, signed by 200 artists (Billie Eilish, Pearl Jam, Niki Minaj), call on “AI developers to, tech companies, platforms and digital music services to cease the use of AI to infringe and devalue the rights of human artists”. “Make no mistake: we believe that, when used responsibly, AI has enormous potential to advance human creativity", however, "when used irresponsibly, AI poses enormous threats to privacy, identities, music and livelihood. Some of the biggest and most powerful companies are, without permission, using our work to train AI models. These efforts are directly aimed at replacing the work of human artists with massive quantities of AI-created 'sounds' and 'images' that substantially dilute the royalty pools that are paid out to artists.” 🔎 To put this in perspective Last month, one of the Suno investors was interviewed by Rolling Stone Magazine: “Antonio Rodriguez is investing in Suno with the full knowledge that music labels and publishers could sue, which he sees as “the risk we had to underwrite when we invested in the company, because we’re the fat wallet that will get sued right behind these guys.… Honestly, if we had deals with labels when this company got started, I probably wouldn’t have invested in it. I think that they needed to make this product without the constraints.” At Thunderboom Records, we believe in constraints. In fact, they are central to everything we do. But we don't call them constraints, we call them public values. Curious about how that works in practice? Come see us tonight in OT301 in Amsterdam, where Eveline Ypma performs together with AI, live on stage.

On Saturday, July 29th, I spoke at the Music Meets Data conference organized by Instig lab. My speech was simple: Music is primarily consumed digitally, and just like many other industries that recognize the importance of a product manager, the music industry should also value the role of its product manager, the A&R, more than ever before. During my speech, I used the product manager's lifecycle to highlight the A&R's roles (who, in my opinion, is the music business product manager) and how the successful execution of these roles can lead to the artist's desired business outcomes. The music tech industry is here to stay, and the AI revolution will have both positive and negative impacts on the music industry. To succeed in Africa, we must embrace technology and update the roles of label staff and other music professionals behind the artists. Currently, we are witnessing the global growth of African music in the era of tech explosion, and we must take advantage of this growth to improve every aspect of the business. I believe that the growth of African music heavily relies on the A&R, who is essentially the music business product manager. This is where it all starts.

AI & Music. W[hat] T[he) F[uture]?! I've been hesitant to share this, but in light of recent events, I feel compelled to open up more public. I'm currently co-creating a music album using AI tools, and the experience has been transformative. I don't feel like a traditional music producer – I feel like a music discoverer. These new tools are enabling me to tell stories in ways that were impossible before. I'm working on my first music album called "The Planets". As a space nerd, I've found a way to let the planets tell my stories through music. This isn't about technology replacing creativity; it's about technology enabling and expanding creativity in unprecedented ways. My Album (in Progress): https://lnkd.in/eekJtJZa With this personal context, I can't help but reflect on the recent developments in our industry: Is the Music Industry Repeating History with AI? The recent lawsuits filed by major record labels against AI music Tools Suno and Udio have sparked an important conversation. As someone who's been following the intersection of tech and society/economy for more than 35 years, I can't help but draw parallels to the early 2000s. Remember when the industry sued file-sharing platforms instead of adapting to digital distribution? It seems we might be witnessing history repeat itself, but this time about the creation-process of music. Here's my take: 1. Missed Opportunities: By focusing solely on litigation, are we overlooking potential innovations and new revenue streams? 2. Understanding the Tech: Do industry executives fully grasp the AI technology they're fighting against? Without this understanding, how can we effectively navigate this new landscape? 3. Adaptation vs. Resistance: Instead of resisting change, shouldn't we be exploring ways to integrate AI into our existing models? 4. Balancing Act: While protecting artists' rights is crucial, how can we also embrace the creative possibilities that AI-Tools open up for so many more. I believe there's a way forward that protects the essence of human creativity while leveraging the power of AI. But it requires open minds, collaboration, and a willingness to innovate. From my personal experience, I can attest that AI isn't about replacing human creativity – it's about augmenting and enabling it in exciting new ways. While the industry focuses on money, we should remember that at its core, this is about empowering creativity and storytelling. #MusicIndustry #AI #Innovation #Copyright #FutureOfMusic #CreativeAI Advanced Innovation Suno Udio
