It’s 50 years since the debut of the first #barcode scan! On June 26, 1974, a 10-pack of WRIGLEY’S® JUICY FRUIT® gum marked with a UPC was scanned at a supermarket checkout in Ohio, marking a pivotal moment in retail history. As part of the 50th anniversary Wednesday, GS1 US President and CEO Bob Carpenter visited the ShopRite of Elmsford-Greenburgh in Elmsford, NY to talk about the industry importance of that first scan and what the future holds for barcodes. Happy Scanniversary! http://spr.ly/6040gvVZr #scanniversary #GS1Barcode50

In 1986 I was part of a team that started introducing "scanning" into Shop Rite Supermarkets. After leaving Village Supermarkets to work at Wakefern

Happy National Barcode Day! Hallmark has just released their line of NBC Day cards and as a goof they don't have a bar code! Hopefully one day this will become a national holiday.

Having a career than spanned from pencil & pad to scanners I can only utter in wonder "What hath God wrought?" (apologies to Samuel Morse)
