As a Board member of the African-American Chamber of Commerce of PA, NJ & DE I and the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia urge folks to register for and attend this important event this Thursday at the African American Museum in Philadelphia.
Whatever your views on race/racism and its impact on this country, one cannot deny the demographic shift that is underway. Philadelphia is already a BIPOC-majority city and within a decade or two, the country will be BIPOC-majority. Attacks on affirmative action and their potential to impact DEI threaten to undermine the growth of BIPOC businesses at exactly the wrong moment in American history. If we value a strong economy, we cannot allow DEI initiatives to be rolled back!

Let's look at the facts: "This year, twice as many congressional offices requested fellows than there are fellows available." ~ Jonathan Bagger, CEO of American Physical Society, an STPF founding partner society in our video series of important voices in STPF history.

When you care about something, you must speak on it to preserve it. As chairperson of the Achieving Academic Equity and Excellence for Black Boys (AAEEBB) advisory council, I appreciate my #AAEEBB colleagues and community offering public comment at the recent MSDE board meeting. With a topic as pressing as our boys, it is critical that there are stakeholders lending their voices to share and contextualize the investment, impact, and importance of this area of work.

"We're embarrassed about things we should be proud of and proud of things we should be embarrassed about." - Jerry Seinfeld, Duke Commencement 2024
My brother went to Duke, and when a family favorite, Jerry Sienfeld, was the speaker at the Duke graduation ceremony, his speech was shared in our family chats.
He had many incredible takeaways, including the line above.
As we gear towards The JWE Conference, I cannot help but think about so many women who constantly play this balancing act in our personal and professional lives.
At work, we don't take pride in all our responsibilities outside work - running a home, parenting children, and caring for ourselves and our communities. These are things we should boast about. They are honorable responsibilities that women balance.
In our communities, we shy away and are embarrassed about our work accomplishments. We hide how much we've achieved professionally when asked at a community gathering or amongst our children's friend's parents.
Why can't we acknowledge that raising a family is something to be proud of and highlight as a strength, not a weakness, in addition to our work responsibilities?
Why can't we acknowledge that using our talents outside of our home can also be a strength and something to hold in esteem?
Instead, we sometimes reduce ourselves to being proud of things that fall against our value systems or are embarrassing to highlight - if our kid's clothes match, the type of cars we drive, and if we interact in the "right" social circles.
One of our goals at The JWE Conference is to get this balance right. We should acknowledge that work-life and home-life are both accomplishments that we can and should be proud of.
If you want to join 400 other Jewish women who aim to get this equation right, check out The JWE Conference on June 3rd in Newark, NJ.

I’m not being a hater. Let’s have a serious discussion:
Why does any Institution of Higher Education feel that having alums who are delegates to a Political Convention is newsworthy?
THERE IS NO PURPOSE! That university is trying to engage in DEMOCRAT PARTY GOTV efforts.
Their federal funding should be CUT!
There are probably 50 Carolina alums who are delegates. A&T has several delegates and you don’t see their University promoting such a common occurrence.
I encourage the Administration at NCCU to stay out of politics and focus on fundraising (which last I read, was quite pathetic).
Get some of your alums to stop buying BMWs and give you $100 and perhaps we wouldn’t have to utilize so much of our tax dollars on landscaping over in Durham.
Black Institutions must stop playing SMALL BALL.
This type of BUSHLEAGUE activity is why Blacks as myself, who took Honors and AP courses and excelled DO NOT EVEN APPLY TO THESE SCHOOLS.
#GlorifiedHighSchoolers#PoliticallyCHEAPpeople 🤦
This is great news!
