✌️ Wondering how festivals can be more eco-friendly? There are many options! Take waste management, for instance: Using reusable containers can help ensure that waste doesn't even get created in the first place. Get Vytals from us, serve all food and drinks in these reusable containers, and wait for them to be returned. We'll collect, clean, and prep them for their next adventure. Learn more about our solution here 👉:https://lnkd.in/eszfvDP7 💚 Looking for more ideas for your sustainable event? Here you go: 🥕 Food: Serve only vegetarian or vegan meals. 🌱 Travel: Encourage attendees to arrive by public transportation or bicycle. 🚽 Toilets: Use dry toilets instead of chemical ones. ⚡️ Energy: Generate electricity on-site in an eco-friendly way using solar power, green hydrogen, and muscle power (for example bikes that generate electricity). Let's work together to make festivals more sustainable! #Sustainability #Vytal #Festival #Event

How can you make your festival more sustainable? By looking at the tried and tested techniques of previous events, we can make sure that our future festivals are greener! In their recent blog, OnePlan have outlined 6 aspects to consider when planning. These are… 1. Travel - promote the use of public transport to reduce travel emissions 2. Energy - move away from carbon emissions to renewable energy 3. Recycle - make it easy and reward those that recycle 4. Re-use - reduce what is thrown away. Some ideas include reusable cups and collecting unwanted, undamaged camping gear 5. Toilets - consider compost toilets that use no energy, no water and release no chemicals 6. Food and Drink - lower the carbon footprint by providing organic, local produce Interested to know more? Festival waste. Does anyone bother recycling? Is it worth even bothering with food waste? All too contaminated to process? Time to test it out! I love these stickers, big bright tailor made, typical festival food waste & containers, clear pictures & colours, minimum words. Did it make a difference? Minimal at best! Day 1, food waste next to other bins (for recycling & non-recyclables). Different colour but same size, sticker on every lid, lids closed. Those who can be bothered tried, many more who aren't that way inclined just use the nearest/ look inside and play snap. Day 2, took them all away and replaced with much smaller caddies like people have at home from the council. Lower yield but only 1 (compostable) container! I assume this means those who want to recycle everything are willing to make the effort to bend down and plate scrape, those who aren't fussed just leave the food in the bag/box/tray and lob it in wherever. Anyone else got any insight on food waste at events? Traders mostly did the right thing once bins & caddies were provided to make it easy and the segregation approach was explained 💚 Shout out to #Chalfest a community festival for about 7,500 people in a remarkable village near sustainable Stroud, where a bunch of professional event organisers happen to live, who knew someone who is a teeny bit OCD about sustainable circularity ☺️

Sustainability in the Events Industry is something that PCMA always has top of mind, so we take a moment to celebrate Earth Day. The official theme of Earth Day 2024 is “Planet vs Plastic.” There is a call to arms issued by Earthday.org to reduce all plastic production by 60% by 2040 and to rapidly phase out all single-use plastics by 2030. Eliminating single-use plastics is an issue that not only has broad support in the events industry, but one where multiple organizations are making significant progress. But sustainable events are not just about reducing single-use plastics, here a just a few ways to make your event more sustainable: - Package food in reusable or compostable containers. - Provide a vegetarian and plant based meal for one or a few of your meals. (Up to 18% of global methane emissions come from livestock so this does make a difference !) - Look for an event venue with onsite or walkable guest accommodations to reduce emissions - Work with venues that are LEED or Green Key certified. - Look for locations that support energy efficiencies like LED lighting, demand controlled ventilation, use renewable energy or support zero waste/waste reduction options -Partner with companies who offset your event’s carbon footprint. Planting trees, repurposing florals and food recovery companies are ones that come to mind. Happy Earth Day Everyone, let’s continue to promote sustainable events year round. #earthday #sustainableevents #pcmaswp #meetingprofs #eventptofs #sustainability

🌱 SUSTAINABILITY: Let's talk about making a positive impact at events and exhibits. We opt for eco-friendly materials, encourage reusable items, and recycling what we can after every project is complete. We encourage Illuminating events with LED lights, utilize natural light whenever possible, and invest in renewable energy sources. Small changes can make a big difference! 💡♻️ Supporting local businesses and reducing your event's carbon footprint by opting for locally sourced food and beverages is also a great plan. Tasty AND sustainable! 🍏🌽 And a BIG push for 82 South has been: Green Spaces! Incorporate greenery into your exhibits and event spaces. Not only does it enhance the aesthetic, but it also contributes to a healthier environment. 🌳🌷 Creating events that not only captivate but also inspire positive change can make a lasting impact on our planet. #SustainableEvents #EcoFriendlyExhibits #GreenLiving

Editor of StandOut magazine and Content Manager at Event Buyers Live. Writing passionately about the live events industry. Happy in a hi vis, talking to events professionals
Last month, I had some really lovely and insightful conversations with fantastically knowledgeable people about #EventSustainability and specifically looked at some great things that took place on their event sites this year. I had a fab chat with Clare Goodchild about We Out Here and how the organising team reduced the environmental impact of the festival, which takes place in Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, an International Dark Sky Reserve. Jess Jones from Greenbelt Festival spoke with us about carbon emissions, sustainability fairies, and travel. Kate Chapman at London Marathon Events discussed waste and electric vehicles. And the team behind Shambala discussed the work they undertook on the carbon footprint of food. Its ultimate goal is that all meals served onsite are a One Planet Plate – from The Sustainable Restaurant Association – the globally accepted measure of a sustainable meal, which is less than 0.5kg CO2e per meal. Check out the article in the latest edition of StandOut Magazine (Stand Out Live Events Magazine) and online.
