The Europort 2023 VULKAN Contest! Considering an average overall vibratory torque amplitude of ±20% nominal torque (TKN) and an ambient temperature of 30°C. How many of these kind of twists (caused by alternating torques) will a VULKARDAN F coupling withstand in its lifetime usually? The frequency adopted for the alternating torque which has ±20% of the nominal torque as amplitude and represents the average alternating torque load that the elastic coupling has to cope with during its service life is 10 Hz. This average alternating torque load and ambient temperature, among other things, is taken into account in the theoretical lifetime calculation of a VULKARDAN-F elastic coupling and is of course validated with lifetime tests in our test center. With this frequency the number can of course be calculated exactly; 10 Hertz is 10 cycles per second x60 is 600 cycles per minute x60 is 36.000 cycles per hour x20.000 running hours is 720 million cycles during its lifetime. Give it a thought quite a number a flexible coupling has to cope during its lifetime! And this is the average alternating torque considered, which is the combination of all alternating torques in different amplitudes and frequencies it has to cope with during its lifetime. The total number of all alternating torque cycles during its lifetime is enormous! Without this exact frequency, this number is obviously a "well educated guess" as they say, nevertheless two people gave the exact number.
