5️⃣ The GreenShift CCUS Summit in Düsseldorf has made five recommendations to accelerate European carbon capture. These emphasize the prioritization of CCS, CCU, and the EU CCUS strategy, the support of ongoing CCUS and hydrogen projects, the advocacy of an EU strategy for industrial carbon management, the promotion of collaboration for a green shift, and the encouragement of environmentally friendly procurement. The focus is on multilateral dialogue and collaboration between stakeholders from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and Norway. The summit in Düsseldorf brought together diverse European stakeholders, including representatives from industry, government, civil society, and research sectors such as Norwegian SINTEF. The German Climate Foundation (Deutsche KlimaStiftung) produces educational materials for various target groups of an ESD (Education for Sustainable Development). These educational materials are made available barrier-free on our homepage and can be used for one's own educational work, provided that the Deutsche KlimaStiftung is mentioned as the copyright holder. In the video, we meet Viktor Kühl from our institute, who is part of a team developing a lime storage system. This seasonal energy storage method thermochemically stores renewable electricity in lime in summer and converts it exothermically into heat for heating in winter. The video makes a comparison with a battery to explain energy storage. In summer☀️, when the lime is burned using electricity, energy is stored, just like when a battery is charged. In winter❄️, the lime is dissolved and heat is released. The energy is used in the same way as when a battery is discharged. https://lnkd.in/eRZMEiXV

#Zoomposium with Prof. Dr.-Ing. #Christof #Wetter: "#Energy from "nothing" In this new episode of our current "Zoomposium series" on the topic of "Energy and Climate" or the concrete possible solutions for a sustainable energy supply and climate stability for the future of mankind, my colleague Axel Stöcker from the "Blog der großen Fragen" and I had the opportunity to interview the well-known and renowned scientist from the Department of Energy - Buildings - Environment at Münster University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christof Wetter. Mr. Wetter has been working continuously for more than 20 years in a variety of projects in environmentally relevant areas, especially in municipal and industrial wastewater technology as well as in the field of renewable energies in a responsible position. Within the scope of his activities, Prof. Dr. C. Wetter works as a project engineer, as an expert, as a consultant and as the scientific head of a research group with currently 40 employees. Since 1999, Prof. C. Wetter has been responsible for teaching wastewater technology and water pollution control at Münster University of Applied Sciences and has successfully carried out a large number of research and development projects, including in the field of industrial research. For many years, he has been particularly active in the field of organic waste utilization (including biogas technologies), renewable energies and electromobility and has developed many new concepts during this time. The interview with Professor Wetter also follows on seamlessly from my last essay "In the beginning was hydrogen", as I had already referred there to the diverse technological possibilities for producing "#green #hydrogen". In this respect, we can perhaps now understand the initially strange title of the interview "Energy from 'nothing'" a little better, as it contradicts the "first law of thermodynamics" or simply the "first law of common sense: nothing comes from nothing". Of course, "nothing" here does not mean something material, the only difference being that we have not attached any economic importance to #waste/residual materials. In contrast to environmental protection, these waste/residual materials have so far had to be disposed of and reprocessed at great expense. With the processes developed by Professor Wetter and his team, it is now possible to dispose of these valuable raw materials more cost-effectively. On the contrary, in this "win-win situation" it is now even possible to generate energy from nothing. But Mr. Wetter will explain this in more detail in our joint interview. As of January 1st, 2024, it was expected that some of the #Umweltzones would be abolished. However, a recent decision has been made to keep the #Umweltzone in #Hannover in place until at least the end of January 2024.
