Change management no matter how big or small the change is requires some delicate consideration of building appropriate relationships to ensure all stakeholders are aligned and we do need to acknowledge emotions that are involved in the process. Some considerations and take aways from our session today. #AILAGMSCILS 1. Communication is Key: Transparent and clear communication about the upcoming changes fosters trust and understanding within the community. 2. Inclusivity Matters: Involving the community in decision-making processes helps them feel valued and can lead to more successful change implementation. 3. Anticipate Concerns: Understand and address potential concerns within the community, providing reassurance and addressing uncertainties. 4. Training and Support: Offer adequate training and support to help the community adapt to new processes or technologies effectively. 5. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate milestones achieved during the change process to maintain morale and motivation within the community. 6. Feedback Loops: Establish feedback mechanisms to continuously gather insights from the community, allowing for adjustments and improvements based on their experiences. 7. Leadership Alignment: Ensure that leadership is aligned in its commitment to change, providing a consistent message and direction for the entire community. 8. Cultural Considerations: Recognise and respect the existing culture within the community, adapting change strategies to align with and enhance existing values. 9. Flexibility in Approach: Recognise that different individuals within the community may have varying needs and responses to change; flexibility in the approach can be crucial. 10. Long-Term Engagement: Maintain engagement with the community even after the initial implementation, ensuring ongoing support and addressing emerging issues promptly.

If we want our change & improvement efforts to spread, it's not enough to have a project aim. We also need to connect the aim with our directional goal, driven by a purpose that people can connect with. The goal sets the orientation/direction of travel towards which the improvement work will contribute. In complex change, the directional goal should be co-created with a wider range of people that represent the massive collective effort that is likely to be required to deliver it & framed in a way that invites participation. While some pilot projects are in motion, the report highlights a need for more initiatives among charterers, ship owners, and ports and terminals. The report emphasizes the need for deeper engagement and collaboration across the entire value chain to overcome hurdles and get a handle on the untapped potential.
