By 2035, the automotive industry is set to undergo a remarkable transformation with the Circular Car Concept. But what does this mean for us? In essence, the EU aims to revolutionize car manufacturing by promoting a circular economy approach, where new vehicles will be constructed primarily from recycled materials. This groundbreaking initiative, known as 'Project Zevra', is led by Germany's Fraunhofer Institute and involves a consortium of major auto manufacturers. Why the shift? It's not just about reducing emissions from driving; it's also about reimagining how we build cars. By minimizing the use of new raw materials and maximizing recycling, refurbishing, and reusing parts, the Circular Car Concept aims to significantly slash the carbon footprint of each vehicle. This forward-thinking approach extends to the entire value chain, including EV battery production, with the goal of lowering CO2 emissions across the board. With materials like steel, aluminum, plastics, and even tires being targeted for circularity, we're looking at a potential 25% reduction in the CO2 footprint per vehicle.
