As per IEA, in 2023, Global annual renewable capacity additions increased by almost 50% to nearly 510 gigawatts (GW), the fastest growth rate in the past 20 years. While the increases in renewable capacity in Europe, the United States, and Brazil hit all-time highs, renewable energy additions in China are leading the race. In 2023, China commissioned as much solar PV as the entire world did in 2022, while its wind additions also grew by 66% year-on-year. Globally, solar PV alone accounted for three-quarters of renewable capacity additions worldwide. #renewableenergy #solarenergy #windenergy #solarpanels #renewables #greenenergy #climateaction #sustainability

Excellent news to support an optimistic start to 2024! ☀ According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the amount of renewable energy capacity added to energy systems around the world grew by more than 50% from 2022 to 2023, reaching almost 510 gigawatts – three-quarters of which was solar power. For context – 510 GW is equivalent to the entire power generation capacity of Germany, France and Spain – COMBINED! 📈 The IEA estimates that between 2023 – 2028, almost 3,700 GW of new renewable capacity will be added to the grid – a truly revolutionary figure if we can achieve it. ☀Critically - global manufacturing capacity for solar panels is forecast to reach 1,100 GW by the end of 2024, significantly exceeding demand and therefore continuing to drive down the price of solar. 📈 The IEA now projects that by 2025 renewables will surpass coal to become the largest global source of electricity generation. By 2028 renewable energy is expected to account for 42% of global electricity generation. Yes – plenty of challenges remain across the board. We need to do more, and we need to do it faster. Nonetheless, these figures show huge progress in the right direction, and we should celebrate these achievements. Onwards! #climatesolutions #renewableenergy #renewables #energytransition #climatechange

The results are in! 📣 This was our closest poll yet - with renewable energy sources winning the vote by just 1%! As far as the adoption rate for renewables in 2024, the outlook is quite promising. There's a significant increase expected in the installation of renewable energy infrastructure, such as solar panels and wind turbines. With renewable deployment projected to grow, renewables are anticipated to account for a substantial portion of electricity generation, potentially up to a quarter globally!⚡ Legislative efforts, like the Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, could further accelerate this growth, potentially doubling the deployment rates of wind and solar technologies. Additionally, regulatory support and corporate initiatives are likely to drive investment in renewable infrastructure. At RLG, we're always excited to see circularity in motion! #poll #results #renewableenergy #innovation #renewables #greenenergy

🌞 Exciting Growth in Renewable Energy Adoption! 🌬️ Renewable energy sources are making history by providing over 30% of the nation's electrical generation for the first time ever, as reported by the Energy Information Administration. 🌞 Solar energy saw a remarkable 25% increase in the first four months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. 📈 Small-scale solar surged by 19%, while utility-scale solar (both thermal and photovoltaic) expanded by 28%. 📊 Small-scale solar alone accounted for 31% of all solar generation. Wind energy also experienced significant growth, with April 2024 wind-generated electricity up 11% from the previous year, boosted by new offshore wind turbines along the Atlantic coast. #renewableenergy #cleanenergy #energyusa

In 2023, the global addition of large-scale solar and wind capacity surged by 50%, marking the fastest expansion in renewable energy in the last 30 years. This significant growth, detailed in the International Energy Agency's (IEA) 'Renewables 2023' report, puts the world on the verge of meeting the ambitious COP 28 target of tripling renewable capacity by 2030. The year saw nearly 510 gigawatts of new renewable energy capacity, with solar PV representing a remarkable three-quarters of this increase. The IEA's forecast for 2023-2028 predicts global capacity reaching 7300GW, driven by the declining cost of solar PV. Crucially, 2023 was a milestone year for cost-effectiveness in renewables. Most new solar PV and onshore wind installations offered cheaper power than existing fossil fuel plants. By 2028, more than 80% of new renewable capacity is expected to be more affordable than fossil fuels, including offshore wind. This rapid growth, predominantly in solar and wind, is set to make renewables the largest source of global electricity generation by early 2025, surpassing coal. This shift not only represents a significant stride in sustainable energy but also signals a new era of cost-effective power generation. "In 2022, 86% of new #solarPV capacity and 87% of onshore #wind capacity had lower costs than new fossil fuel options. (...) #Renewable power deployed globally since 2000 saved an estimated USD 521 bn in fuel costs." Powerful analysis by International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in their latest „Renewable Power Generation Costs in 2022“ report. Reasons include a drastic drop in renewables LCOS, but also fossil fuel-fired power generation costs rising in 2021-2022. Overall, between 2010 and 2022, 1,120 GW of renewable power generation with a lower LCOE than that of the weighted‑average fossil fuel-fired LCOE by country/region was deployed. For Europe specifically, it is possible that the build-out of renewables since 2010 probably saved the continent from a full-blown economic crisis, as in the absence of renewable power generation, the direct economic costs of the fossil fuel price hikes would have been much higher. The economics of renewable energy are more compelling than ever - time to exploit their full potential.
