The best healthcare is the kind that gives patients what they need and delivers outcomes that matter the most to patients. @Australian Health Service Alliance and @Insight Actuaries are working together on a groundbreaking data and analytics tool that helps place patient perspectives at the centre of our healthcare system. Patient-reported data has emerged as a crucial element of successful, value-driven health systems worldwide. From the US to Europe, to Africa and Asia, patient-reported data has consistently led to health service improvement, fewer adverse events and shorter hospital stays, contributing to markedly lower costs and better healthcare outcomes for patients. Meaningful consideration of wide-ranging patient-reported data needs to be included in our #privatehealthcare system. Without this data, value and quality have to be inferred, leaving our doctors, hospitals and health funds without a comprehensive view of the complete patient journey. By measuring what matters most to patients through a platform like Voice of the Patient, we can improve the #healthcare journey and achieve a value-based care market for millions across Australia. It is exciting to see patients' perspectives being used to define what matters the most in healthcare. “What is not defined cannot be measured. What is not measured, cannot be improved. What is not improved, is always degraded” - William Thomson Kelvin Using patient-reported data to develop a health system that continually learns and improves will ensure that Australians will continue to access some of the best care in the world. #ValueBasedCare #PatientReportedOutcomes #PatientExperience #BetterHealthOutcomes #HealthcareExcellence #VoP #VoiceOfThePatient

Very excited to be able to contribute to World Patient Safety day with the Australian Health Service Alliance. Measurement is the foundation for improvement. By understanding the most important aspects of patient care, we can build a health system that consistently learns and improves.
World Patient Safety Day falls on September 17, and to mark this important day of awareness, we’re highlighting insights and findings from the Voice of the Patient this month. One of the best ways to ensure all Australians access safe healthcare includes helping patients understand their health journey and reducing unknowns or misconceptions. Patient safety is essential in all settings and levels of healthcare provision and is impacted by multiple interrelated factors. One of those is patient comorbidities. Through Voice of the Patient, we can identify that patients with multiple chronic conditions are more likely to report adverse experiences during their hospital stay. But Voice of the Patient also indicates that the best performing private hospitals are more engaged with these patients and more effective in supporting them through their care journey. By measuring what matters most to patients and understanding their experiences, and perspectives on outcomes, we can collectively work to improve patient safety and wellbeing across the board. World Patient Safety Day falls on September 17, and to mark this important day of awareness, we’re highlighting insights and findings from the Voice of the Patient this month. Australia operates one of the world’s best and most revered health systems. Our healthcare professionals are of the highest calibre, our private hospitals are top notch, and our outcomes are world leading. We know that by measuring our performance, things get better. The Voice of the Patient enables Australia’s already high performing private hospitals to continue to improve by providing feedback from the patient. To date, we found that 96% of patients in private hospitals report a good to very good overall experience. Improving healthcare experiences and outcomes is important and not solely the responsibility of the providers. We can all play a role. By surveying patients and understanding their experiences and perspectives on outcomes, we can collectively work to improve patient safety, wellbeing and experiences across the board. We are excited to see Daniel Erasmus, from the Voice of the Patient, recently share his insights in an opinion piece on the Healthcare Channel. As we step into 2024, the conversation around value-based healthcare continues to gain momentum, not just in Australia but globally. #ICHOM A pivotal challenge we face in advancing practical solutions and innovation lies in both the scarcity of patient-reported data a well as the interpretation of that data in the context of healthcare service delivery and costing. This is essential to truly understand and enhance the value of treatments for patients. A big thanks to Healthcare Channel for highlighting this critical issue and supporting the endeavours of the #VoiceofthePatient platform in revolutionising Australia's private health sector. #PREMs #PROMs #DataDrivenCare #ValueBasedHealthcare #PatientExperience #patientreportedoutcomes #AHSA #InsightActuaries #ICHOM Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gvSQjaSE

Following the official nationwide launch of Voice of Patient, we are thrilled to now provide our services for WorkSafe Victoria. Almost half a million Australians experience work-related injuries every year, resulting in thousands of claims and many months of missed work and productivity. In Victoria alone, almost 30,000 claims are registered annually. Thousands of workplace claims relate to musculoskeletal injuries – especially hips and knees. Our patient experience measures show that patients receiving knee and hip procedures at the top 33% of hospitals report better outcomes, shorter lengths of stays, fewer adverse events and healthcare-associated complications. By providing services to WorkSafe Victoria, Voice of the Patient and Australian Health Service Alliance raise its position as the country’s leading platform for private patient insights. Together, we can delve deeper into what matters most to patients who suffer workplace injuries and help our hospitals to deliver the best value and highest #qualitycare. #VoiceofthePatient #patientcare #patientadvocacy #AnalyticsInHealthcare #AHSA #InsightActuaries

Following three years of data collection and analysis, Australian Health Service Alliance and Insight Actuaries are thrilled to officially launch the Voice of the Patient (VoP). This groundbreaking platform is a giant leap forward in our mission to understand and elevate the perspective of patients across Australia. With data collected from many thousands of Australians across more than 250 private hospitals nationwide, we've established one of the largest private patient-reported databases in the country. And it's growing every day. The Voice of the Patient uses the latest developments in patient-reported measures and is rooted in the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) sets. Patient-reported data include Patient Reported Experience Measures (#PREMs) that capture the patient's perception of their experience with healthcare or services, and Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (#PROMs), which capture the patient's perspectives about their health and well-being and how their treatment has impacted this. Patient-reported measures are increasingly recognised globally as crucial factors in quality, patient-centred care. These tools help to highlight issues that remain unnoticed when using standard clinical quality indicators, steering us towards a truly value-based system that puts the patient at the centre of #healthcare. The VoP platform is paving the way by collecting a range of patient-reported metrics and combining this with other data sources like clinical data, cost data, demographic information, and data on Hospital Acquired Complications (HACs). # VoiceOfThePatient offers a multi-definitional perspective on healthcare, aiming to encourage a healthcare system that is constantly learning, developing and improving to benefit hospitals, health funds and patients alike. #YourVoiceMatters #PatientCenteredCare #ICHOM #ValueBasedCare
