Register for December 20 and explore the global dynamics of disinformation and its implications for the Netherlands with a great panel consisting of Herman Wasserman, Professor of Media Studies at Stellenbosch University and Giancarlo Fiorella, Director of Research and Training at Bellingcat. Donya Alinejad will moderate. Disinformation is having an increasingly significant impact on public discourse in the Netherlands. Disinformation can amplify or suppress opinions and contribute to magnifying differences within society. This can undermine democracy and disrupt the course of free and open elections. Let's unravel the impact of disinformation together:
On behalf the Center for Global Challenges of Utrecht University, my colleagues Joost de Laat, Marloes Verholt, Daan van Arcken and I would like to invite you to attend a panel discussion probing global insights on disinformation. Panelists are internationally acclaimed researchers/speakers Herman Wasserman, Professor of Media Studies and Department Chair at Stellenbosch University (who is visiting us 14-24 December) and Dr Giancarlo Fiorella, Director of Research and Training at Bellingcat. My colleague Dr Donya Alinejad will moderate. More details here: https://lnkd.in/eTWMTyFN

Is Austria a good research location - was this year's prize question of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Congratulations to Theo Anders, journalist of Der Standard, and to Jürgen Janger, Senior Economist at WIFO for both winning the essay contest. CeMM Adjunct PI and Uni Vienna Professor Nuno Maulide also participated in the contest, and his personal perspective was among the top essays being published. Link to Top Essays of the ÖAW Prize Question: https://lnkd.in/d7JBehGn Nuno Maulide - Austria’s Scientific Renaissance: A Perspective from the Crossroads of Tradition and Innovation: …If Austria aims to be competitive in the global research arena of the 21st century, we must decide: Do we continue to fight against the tides of change, or do we embrace transformative policies that prepare Austria for a future marked by innovation and inclusivity? As Victor Hugo famously stated, “Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come.” The time for change in Austria’s research landscape is now, and it is unstoppable…

𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗦 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 // 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄... Martha Teijema Two weeks from now, the first international congress of INEA will take place at the Rijtuigenloods in Amersfoort. Martha, researcher and coordinator of INEA's Knowledge Base, is closely involved in organizing this congress. The theme of the INEA Congress (March 20, 21 & 22) is: Intercountry adoption: creating a multi-perspective narrative. In this vlog, Martha visits the congress venue and gives you a first sneak preview! Martha stresses the importance of the congress; “(Scientific) knowledge on intercountry adoption should be shared much more. And maybe even more important: renewed. The subjects of transformative justice and reculturation are important topics when you want to give way for reparation and acknowledgement of all the stories and perspectives on transnational adoption. Extra attention should be given to researchers who are adopted themselves. With this congress we focus on the often overlooked perspectives and disciplines in science and the workfield. This way, we hope to create a multi-perspective view and include all visions and narratives.” 📽 Watch the full introduction video of Martha here: https://lnkd.in/eVcSPYt7 🎫 Interested in joining our congress? How could research become more transformative? Having spent years at UCL and experienced the latest round of the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) with their emphasis on societal impacts motivated us to start this activity here👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽Looking forward to great collaborations on how transformative research with societal impacts can be assessed.
The "Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment" (CoARA) aims to improve research evaluation processes, rethink traditional evaluation methods and promote modern approaches. They have just confirmed the first international teams, including the working group "𝘛𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴: 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘥/𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦-𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘴", in which ZMT, the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER), the Hochschullehrerbund Bundesvereinigung as well as further international partners will focus on the evaluation of transdisciplinarity in terms of its importance for solving pressing societal problems. Within this working group Bleischwitz Raimund and a team at ZMT, in consultation with the Leibniz Association, have successfully assembled a consortium of sixteen partner institutions from ten countries to address the assessment of transformative scientific work.
