To become a Tradesman/women, it takes time - 12 years of schooling, 2 years at technical colleges and 4 years of apprenticeship/NC levels plus the process of trade testing exam to become skill TRADE personnel. The process takes years and different process of learning, the employers when promoting someone to a senior roles consider trademan with trade papers. Promoting a operator who's been through a 6 months shot course at privately run training schools to become supervisors supervising the trades people is not fair. It's not a dream thought, it's happening right here in our country. WANTOK OR SAVE PES SYSTEM.

The Importance of Having an Experienced Trade Support Mentor for Apprentices Being a first or second-year apprentice can be both exciting and overwhelming. The journey of an apprentice can be daunting, with periods of self-doubt and frustration. A mentor provides not only technical guidance but also emotional support and encouragement. They can offer reassurance during difficult times, celebrate successes, and keep apprentices motivated and focused on their goals. Having an experienced trade support mentor can have a profound impact on first and second-year apprentices. The mentorship relationship fosters accelerated learning, professional growth, and personal development, providing apprentices with the tools and confidence they need to succeed in the industry. For those new to the trade, a mentor is not just a teacher but a valuable ally in their career journey.

Our commitment to delivering top-tier educational experiences is greatly enhanced by our collaboration with industry partners. These relationships are pivotal for our Heavy Equipment Operator program, where real-world tools and expertise play a crucial role. Industry-Supported Learning: Curriculum Enhancement: Our industry advisory group plays an essential role in regularly updating our curriculum to meet evolving industry demands. Real-World Connection: Guest speakers and field trips organized through our partners provide invaluable networking opportunities, connecting students directly to potential employers. Affordable, Practical Experience: Thanks to loans of equipment from companies like Rocky Mountain Equipment (RME), we keep tuition costs manageable. These partnerships not only give our students hands-on experience with top-of-the-line machinery but also offer companies a Gift in Kind tax deduction and early access to qualified operators. Spotlight on Partnership: Last year, RME generously loaned three new pieces of heavy equipment to our campus: a Case Compact Dozer Loader (521G), a Case Backhoe Loader (580SV), and a Case Excavator- Midi (CX140E). This equipment is now integral to our Heavy Equipment Operator, Technician Apprenticeship, and Agricultural & Heavy Equipment programs, providing our students with expanded hands-on learning opportunities. A Decade of Partnership: Our relationship with RME extends over ten years, marking a legacy of mutual benefit and shared growth. Their ongoing support, including the Ken Wood Memorial Scholarship Award, exemplifies the profound impact of our industry collaborations.

So PAU sends out students to do practicum, each students must complete 200 hours on Job Training. Within this 200 hours we were told to come up with a project. Identify an issue in the organization/company come up with a best solution. Now it depends on how well you interact with your supervisors, and this is through good communication skills. We were privileged to be trained under some of the best Auditors in PNG. Sitting down looking back on our project write up got me thinking back on how we presented the project to the organization. It was about " Reviving of the Graduate Program and Career Pathway for existing employees " Many employees feel that they're constant, their welfare is neglected. As much as we want to push through new graduates to be trained, we also think of how existing employees get promotion. What stages to pass? How to go about this stages? We wrote a good project and I enjoyed doing survey, collecting data and analyse reports to come up with evidences to present to the organization. Some of my best experience with my practicum colleagues. ๐
