Can we fight the climate crisis with technology? In 2023, the tech world started to redefine innovation with a crucial focus on sustainability. No longer just a buzzword, sustainability is now an urgent necessity for our planet's well-being. The European Union is leading the charge, envisioning a "twin transition" that marries the digital revolution with a green transformation, as stated in the European Green Deal. But it's not just about balancing the scales – it's about embedding sustainability directly into the digital transformation process itself. Digital technologies currently account for 8 to 10 percent of the EU's energy consumption and emit 2 to 4 percent of greenhouse emissions. It's a significant impact that can either be the greatest opportunity for sustainability or the biggest risk, as highlighted by David Jensen from the UN Environment Programme.
