Automotive Tier 1 suppliers had a larger presence than the OEMs at CES2024
We see a distinct omission of multiple car makers from the exhibit floor. This includes GM, Ford, Stellantis, VW Group, Toyota, Nissan and Volvo. Much of last year’s promotion from the car makers was electrification. Remember, GM had a keynote on an “all electric future.” We also saw Volkswagen introduce the all-electric ID.7.
So in 2024, the focus goes to the T1 and software defined vehicles. They speak to integrating existing hardware or new hardware with scalable software. Essentially, moving from advanced safety to higher levels of autonomy with the right design.
For a number of years, I have seen designers choose specific packages for safety systems in anticipation of regulation and performance changes. I know designers who prefer programmable packages specifically because regulation was lagging. It is easier to perform a software update than it is to replace the hardware.
Some examples of the T1 exhibits include
Bosch introduced a new cockpit and ADAS integration platform in conjunction with Qualcomm.
Aptiv introduced software defined vehicles. They promote hardware scalability, software flexibility and updateability
In addition to software focused systems, there was a larger presence of lidar such as the introduction of long range lidar from RoboSense.
It always makes me think about the reliability of the hardware and the need to get it right.

1moIt is appreciated. I don't know how it is promoted and how massively integrated in automotive, I don't know how "receptive" the industry is horizontally to the integration of systems, fast, efficient, or I know, and especially integrated on branches of units, but what I know is that it's a great achievement and you cover a great need. Good luck!
