How about the number of individuals and the age at which they hold this wealth. An average Milennial in 2023 is 34 years old while an average Baby Boommer is 68.
Looks just about right. Baby Boomers were setup to take advantage of all the opportunities from 1990 to 2023. I would have thought GenX would have reached much more than just 50% of what Baby Boomers did by 2023 though.
As comments suggest, this tracks with age. Just owning a house puts you near the top. How about US Debt by generation?
What percentage of the BB`s wealth is highly volatile?
As a person born in 1979 and sick of being called "Millenial," thank you for your accurate categorization of Gen X. Mr. Rogers, Bob Ross, and Oregon Trail, baby!

4dThe boomer number should be much higher given the amount of time the boomers had to amass wealth. It is pretty pathetic that they squandered their opportunity during what was the greatest economic growth period in at least the last few thousand years. They were hitting their prime in the early 1980s when the mutual fund markets took off, followed by the computer boom, the internet boom, multiple good real estate cycles, and more. Back in 1981, the national debt was $1 trillion dollars, and now they have amassed future generations' liabilities to the point that the debt is 34 (nearly 35) times higher in only 43 years. Even with all the deficit spending, they destroyed the US education system, contaminated the food supply, allowed chemical companies to dump toxins into the watersheds, and the list goes on. The fact that a large majority of the boomers are poor and live off Social Security, with many more having savings of less than $1,000,000, is just pathetic. I know that not everyone will take good care of their financial future, but the sheer number of struggling boomers is alarming. It is just proof that this generation is the most failed of all time. I attribute it to their "me first, winner takes all" attitude.
