Vista recently hosted a teddy bear clinic at the Zion Fire Department's Open House event with the goal of helping kids feel more comfortable with going to the doctor or hospital for a check-up when they're sick or injured. Seeing all the small smiling faces as they fixed their bears up was such a treat!

This is always a difficult topic but one that we need to continue to discuss. In many many cases CPR is simply a torture that prolongs suffering OR causes unnecessary suffering. As this article states, 80% of those cases where CPR brought someone back resulted in them dying at the hospital anyway and most of those were within just a few days. Who would want to live like that? Did we REALLY provide INFORMED consent when reviewing advance directives? I think if we did, the rate of “full code” directives would drastically decrease.

During a recent presentation, a majority of seniors expressed the belief that CPR should be given to anyone in need, thinking it was nearly always successful. But there is an inconvenient truth about CPR that must be considered. It is not a guaranteed solution and can worsen the condition of elderly patients with terminal illnesses or serious heart damage. This is because older bodies are typically weaker and less able to recover from the procedure. To learn more, please visit our blog today.
