Had the opportunity to attend DC Startup Week today as the week-long conference came to a close. As someone in the wellness space, the discussions were very tech-focused but I truly enjoyed being in the heat of so many incredible and thriving entrepreneurs right here in DC. Most of all, I enjoyed the panel "Self Care for Entrepreneurs: Why We Must Prioritize Mental Health to Build Game Changing Startup". Moderated by Natasha Coco Benitez, who absolutely lit up the room with energy... and hearing from wellness thought leaders Esther Boykin, Julianne Williams, Alina Liao and Ashley W. couldn't have inspire me more. Here are just a few takeaways for those who didn't have the pleasure of attending: • Self-care is like brushing your teeth. It's a ritual, a routine - a practice. Something you must do daily, and when you don't... people notice. • Self-care is not, and should not be something else on your to-do list that brings stress and should be a practice you find solace in. • Self-care is self-compassion. Be where your feet are and allow both grounding and grace to take lead. And last, but not least: • When in doubt, always know that there is a way and that you are capable. You've found a way thus far and though it may not have been the ideal one, it is indeed a way. #DCstartupweek #WellnessPanel #SelfCare

𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝟯𝟬% 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - yet this fact is often overlooked by investors, incubators, accelerators and others supporting startups. 🎢 As someone who has experienced the rollercoaster ride of startup life for 5 years now, I know firsthand the toll it can take on mental health and saw it so many times with other founders. That's why I'm dedicating #5spots of my coaching schedule every month now to founders who want to prioritize their mental wellbeing. Remember, as founders we need to spend our resources wisely: you can't pure from an empty cup! 🆘 So, if you or someone you know could benefit from this support, please send me a PM. Let's work together to make sure that we can all push forward while staying mentally sane. On the picture: Me in 2019 at the WebSummit in Lisbon, where I was chosen to join the stage for the opening ceremony with 200 other selected startup founders in front of 75.000 people. 4 months later the pandemic hit! "Success breeds success..." Nexus Stage kicked off with Aaron Gershenberg and Maxine Minter discussing all things funds, and exploring the progression of the Australian ecosystem based on the past, present and future. Key Takeaways: 💰We need to be building a culture around failure and trying new things, normalising the idea of failing fast and swinging hard. 💰We need to destigmatise mental health and be more proactive towards prioritising mental health. 💰The ecosystem is also reliant on lawyers, accountants, headhunters and universities to continue information sharing and building global networks. #WestTechFest23 #Innovations #entrepreneurs

Celebrate your mate's success stories... Something slightly different today. I wanted to share the remarkable achievements of some incredible friends and their business ventures in the challenging world of startups. 1. 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 - http://www.batchldn.com. My best mates Julian Osborne, Sam Matanle 🌍& Imogen Matanle are shaking things up in the world of fashion. Their custom-made suits are not only the most comfortable & versatile suits around (seriously go check them out), but also play a pivotal role in tackling the issue of fast fashion. Big up the future of slow fashion. (Oh and check out the legend that is Romesh Ranganathan repping the latest batch suit on tour below) 2. 𝐋𝐮𝐦𝐢 - https://lnkd.in/eMuGGwaq - Dr Mark Cox & Euan Bell are bridging the gap in mental health care. In the UK 1 in 5 young people have a mental health condition. Their mission is to democratise mental health support for families. Watch this space 🚀 3. 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐨 - https://www.talamo.co.uk/ - Jamie Wace is the Co-founder of Talamo, a start-up that aims to use technology to help identify neurodivergent individuals. Their first project is focused on AI-powered dyslexia risk assessment screening (Check out their website for updates on this) Big up your mate's success whether that's in business or just in general. Nice one #startup #startuplife #networking
