The weekend is around the corner so, if you’re an ecomm that sells stuff that people use over the weekend (think sports and lifestyle, or even fashion), listen in! Here is a proven strategy to reduce your Retention Cycle and grow CLV! Same day fulfilment and express shipments! Promote Express, make it cheaper, subsidise it, brand it, whatever you have to do. Why? Let’s say someone orders something on a Thursday and you send it express so it arrives before the weekend. Your customer is frothing, obviously, but they are now able to use your amazing product 1 whole weekend before they would have if it was shipped with regular. This means they are likely to buy again at least 1 week before they otherwise would have. The difference between regular and express from Brisbane to Perth can be 2 weeks. At a stretch this can turn into 3 weekends. Think in terms of “we must get shit to customers before the weekend”… Get the goods out the door fast, ship it fast, and your Retention Cycle and CLV will reward you. "Sir, your Area Manager hasn't been picking up the phone, hence I had to call you since my problems aren't getting solved." "But he came to you only last week, did it not get solved then?" "Last week? Sir, I haven't met him for over 6 months." The Regional Manager was shocked. He had just signed a reimbursement bill for this area manager for the locality in which this dealer was. He checked the reimbursement claim. Bill date: CORRECT. Restaurant location: OOPS, RED FLAG, this is from a locality on the opposite side of town. Cab bill date: CORRECT. He called the cab vendor, who connected him to the driver. OOPS, RED FLAG, he was never in the side of town he was supposed to be in (this was before Ola & Uber had become the norm). So he called the Area Manager: "Rahul, you were at General Traders last week, did his pending issues get solved?" "Yes sir, I have discussed all with him and it will be sorted." "Oh, okay. And what other problems did he have?" "Sir, he was talking about his credit notes, which I have jotted down." Rahul never realized he had fallen into the trap. To cover up one lie, he went on building a web in which he got stuck. The Regional Manager got someone to check other bills, other dates, other dealers and the case against Rahul was watertight. A week later, he was asked to leave. Here was a Tier 1 B-School grad, all set for an awesome career ahead and he threw it all away assuming no one will notice. Remember, your bosses aren’t fools. You might think you are smart, but everyone has been there and gone through the same journey. They know the tricks of the trade. Integrity and honesty are non-negotiable. Always remember, the truth will come out eventually, and it’s your reputation that’s at stake. Stay honest, stay humble, and always uphold the values that got you where you are.
