Educators will find a way. The team has been featuring work this month that we've done across education ranging from pre-school to higher ed. Among the tactics and insights the team will be sharing, one of the foundational challenges to acknowledge are the following truths: 1. While linked to each other by the overarching brand, different schools within the same university have different audiences, different value props, different content. (You'll see in some of our posts this month that student choice goes way beyond the overarching brand & reputation these days.) 2. To compete with other universities, each school needs communications and a digital presence that is more than university level, they need something specific to them, their audiences, and the impact they are making. 3. If you don't provide the means for the schools & academic programs you support to do this, they will find a way to do it themselves. Like any business, rogue digital efforts can lead to all kinds of challenges (brand inconsistency, vulnerabilities, support challenges, etc). The universities doing it right are arming the different academic programs they support with either technology that allows that flexibility (not just a department template on the main website), or service providers who understand their university level goals/guidelines, but can deliver something unique within them.
Between supporting recruitment, brand building, enrollment goals, and the unique complexities of a university environment, higher education marketers have a big job to do. Throughout our history, we've helped Northwestern, Loyola Chicago, MSU Denver, and so many other great universities achieve their goals with strategic digital experiences. In June, we'll be diving into just a few of these projects and exploring how we navigated these challenges as a team. Stay tuned! 🏫 #BuiltByClique

"So how do we bring in more career pathway programs, vocational opportunities, and early college? At the end of the day, the question is this: is Massachusetts willing to make the changes? I think we're Blockbuster video in 1992 — we're not seeing Netflix coming." - Massachusetts Commissioner of Education Jeffrey C. Riley underscoring the need for urgency and innovation, and the opportunity to drive "what's next." Thank you to Commissioner Riley for joining us for our latest Competitiveness Conversation event in partnership with Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education. It's always a thrill to come back to Stanford and talk to current students. I had a blast talking about careers in pro sports and some of the lessons I've learned along my own journey. I also shared what I think are three interesting research topics for students interested in breaking into the industry right now-- if I were still on campus, I would try to learn as much as I could about these, especially the first. Resharing here, would be curious what folks think about these. (1) Machine learning on skeletal tracking data. There is a flood of this class of data coming online in every sport -- how can we build end-to-end ML models that learn interesting structure from the raw data. (2) The interesting ways in which statistical models break down (ie. team misses 27 straight threes, data are not IID Bernoulli trials), and can we systematically learn anything from this beyond just explaining it away, "the model can't capture everything." (3) Induction and the assumption of the future being like the past -- this is at the heart of all predictive modeling, but in an era when team strategies are constantly being optimized, how can you avoid the unpleasant outcomes. Thank you so much Lindsey Akin for hosting me! I know I got so much out of my MS&E degree and want to help others do the same.
Our students love hearing about diverse careers where they can utilize their degree program learning. So a huge thank you to John Sears for an entertaining and informative session on Quantitative Research in Pro Sports - From Stanford to the Front Office.

New York heads back to school this week and I most definitely in my feelings about the last licks of summer. I am a lover of learning. And, if you know me, you are well aware that I am a also critical observer and consumer of everything 'academic.' I have always asked a lot of questions about learning and now, the curiosity extends beyond my questioning of the world at large and into my own home: -What is its purpose? -What prior learnings are required? -How does this connect to other learnings? -Is it research based and if so, what kind of research is it based on? -How is this adapted to meet each learner's needs? -What is the intended impact? -Where are the points of friction? -How can this be extended? And the list goes on... The intersection between me as an #educator and me as a #parent is surely interesting. **Speaking of curiosity, this photo shows my boys marveling at the NY city skyline as we departed on a family vacation last week. Despite living in, or right outside the city, for most of my life I still marvel, too.**

Boston University MBA Candidate - Math & Statistics Dept. - Data Science, ML/AI, R&D, Predictive Modeling, etc.
🚀 Embarking on the Boston University journey has brought intriguing challenges and learning experiences. Transitioning from financial sales to higher education demanded a significant adjustment, an experience many who've changed industries can surely relate to. Maintaining optimism is rooted in the realization that, fundamentally, I'm still in business development. Even if the industry looks totally different. It's coming to the realization that, it's a privilege to be given the opportunity to forge new partnerships for my team, especially in unfamiliar territory. Yesterday, kicking off my third week, marked a milestone as I successfully generated my first lead. Here's to the promising journey ahead! 🌟 #NewBeginnings #CareerTransition #BusinessDevelopment #HigherEducation
