Somerset Dairy Show: Can you raise a low-carbon cow? Making milk and cheese accounts for about 3.4% of global greenhouse gases. The Dairy Show has been taking place for more than 40 years, but its visitors are now thinking about the future. Would you try beer made out of sewage water? That is the question. There is innovation and there is innovation. It ticks off a whole lot of boxes - it's innovative, good for the environment in sooo many ways, out of the box thinking, high-tech. One hell of a product to write a comm strategy for! It's a good thing they didn't do any FGDs for this, cause the groups would most likely say no. Of course, I do not know the customers there, so I could be very wrong. Not for me, but I won't judge. I know they already do this on the international space station (use recycled waste water, not make beer) and if all the SciFi I read is to come true, sometime in the future we'd be lucky even to have this waste water. https://lnkd.in/gUFrfTyY

For the past two years, several companies within the Shachar Group have been engaged in an innovative and bold collaboration to validate and promote a decentralized industrial model in the black soldier fly industry. At the core of this model is the concept that the industry relies on multiple value chain components, necessitating unique and complex specialization. Concentrating these specializations and capabilities within a single company is often inefficient and generally impractical. While industry development initially may proceed in a generalist manner, a point soon arrives where specialization must actively be engaged to realize its full potential. In recent years, Shachar Complexes—a leader in converting food waste to animal feed, Binge Organics—specializing in the rearing processes of the larvae, and FreezeM—a leading player in the breeding of black soldier flies, have worked together to demonstrate the viability of this model and its benefits. The results have been significant and substantial. A good article that looks at how the starch, sweetener & biofuel industry can become more sustainable. These industries historically dried a lot of their co-product because there were not markets to handle the liquid, or combined moist, volumes. But today, in a world where we look for lower CO2e nutrition on our tables, that means we look for lower CO2e feed for our animals. There is a market demanding these types of feed, and we have an industry that can supply them, and reduce their own scope 1 emissions at the same time.
