As per available data, During 2018-19, the average waiting time for vehicles at toll plazas was eight minutes. Transportation experts have made the recommendations here. The federal government and our public engagement plan requires us to keep the public informed, with the opportunity to comment.    Long Range Transportation Plan: Review Amendment Request: ConnectRVA 2045 is the region’s long-range transportation plan and guides investments for all modes of travel including transit, highways, bicycles and pedestrians for the next 20 years.   A proposed amendment recommends the RRTPO Policy Board amend ConnectRVA 2045 to include a $90 million Interchange modification at Exit 211 on I-64 in New Kent County and the removal of four projects. £ 70 million earmarked to make traffic signals more efficient by DfT Darren Capes the ITS Policy Lead at the Department for Transport the Department for Transport, has given details of how local authorities can claim a share of the £70 million earmarked to make traffic signals more efficient, which was announced by the Transport Secretary last Monday. In launching the Department for Transport’s PLAN FOR DRIVERS, Mark Harper said there would be £30 million available through a Traffic Signals Obsolescence Grant (TSOG) to upgrade traffic signal systems, replacing unreliable and obsolete equipment to improve reliability, a £20 million Green Light Fund (GLF) to tune up traffic signals to better reflect current traffic conditions and get traffic flowing and a £20 million Intelligent Traffic Management Fund (ITMF) to deploy advanced technology for traffic signals, making use of emerging technologies to optimise traffic flow and balance traffic across city centres. Speaking at the Highways UK event at the NEC last week , Darren, explained £10 million of the TSOG will be paid out through the transport metrics within the Integrated Transport Block (ITB) formula, but the remaining £20 million of that money, plus the other two £20 million payments will be awarded through challenge processes opening this autumn. For the TSOG and GLF, money will be awarded in £500,000 lots using the same process as used for the 2021 Traffic Signal Maintenance allocation. Darren said that the way the industry responded to the £15 million funding two years ago, and the positive effects of the schemes, helped build the case for this latest funding, which has directly led to what the government calls “the biggest investment in traffic signals in decades”. “This is a huge opportunity for the sector,” Mr Capes added. “I’ve been on the road for most of the last year talking to suppliers and local authorities who have helped me build a case that has led to this funding – so thank you for working with me.” The TSOG is to replace unreliable and obsolete equipment in traffic signal systems before spare parts run out, including halogen, communications equipment, and controllers.  The GLF is for tuning up traffic signals to better reflect current traffic conditions The ITMF gives authorities the chance to deploy advanced technology for traffic signals, using emerging technologies to optimise traffic flow and balance traffic across city centres. 🚧 Re: congestion pricing. A public authority's independence is critical when stewarding trillions of dollars in transportation assets. Yesterday, our MTA Chair Janno Lieber spoke about the MTA's actions regarding our obligation and duty to our 6 million riders. He said, "We aren't giving up on congestion pricing." This is exactly the message I was hoping for. It has been a difficult week, but there is also a sense of resolve. He focused on three items: 1) Reviewing the capital plan in a world where $15 billion no longer exists; 2) Evaluating how congestion pricing will impact operations if there is a decision to issue transportation revenue bonds; and 3) Ensuring MTA continues to meet our obligations under New York State law to implement congestion pricing. Many people have asked me if the MTA can proceed with the congestion pricing program without the necessary approvals. As I understand it, we cannot toll federal-aid highways without state and federal approval for a specific tolling pilot program (VPPP). During my time working on congestion pricing in 2018, I learned that using toll revenues from federal-aid highways to subsidize mass transit violates federal statutes. It shouldn't surprise you that even in the fight for the creation of the MTA, Robert Moses was against using TBTA toll revenues to subsidize transit, the very thing that has kept our transit system alive for the past five decades or so. It is a proud tradition that I have voted each year on the board to transfer TBTA toll revenue of close to $2 billion to support our subways and bus system. It's time to revisit how we continue to use old transportation technology (automobiles and highways) to stifle innovation and prioritize concrete v people.
