Happy 20 to Rio-Antirrio Bridge! Designed, financed, built by VINCI and operated by VINCI Highways and partners through a concession model, the Rio-Antirrio bridge was opened to service in 2004 on the eve of the Athens Olympic Games. In its first 20 years of operation, this masterpiece of engineering and innovation served more than 77 million vehicles, demonstrating the powerful legacy of the first direct link available 24/7 between Greece mainland and the Peloponnese. At the same time, this celebration day honored the French-Greek partnership by hosting the Olympic Torch Relay on its way to Paris, in presence of renowned Greek athletes including baskeball legend Panayótis Yannákis. A team of employees of the bridge were also selected as the first runners to take the Olympic Torch to the bridge. In addition, this event was marked by a high-level of official representation from France and Greece including the presence of Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions, Christos Staikouras, Greek Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, and Nektarios Farmakis, Regional Governor of Western Greece. A great celebration and popular moment! https://lnkd.in/eFAXKzzb #RioAntirrio #bridges #Greece #VINCIHighways Belen Marcos Panayiotis Papanikolas Panos Loukas Gefyra, Rio-Antirrio Bridge #VINCIConcessions Ambassade de France en Grèce #PositiveMobility
