Happy World Bee Day from TII! 🐝 At TII, we understand the critical role that bees play in maintaining biodiversity and supporting our ecosystem. As part of the wider National Biodiversity Week Ireland, we are celebrating bees as the incredible pollinators that they are, crucial for the growth of plants that provide food and habitats for countless species. 🌼 At TII, we are dedicated to integrating sustainable practices across our operations and network. As part of our National Biodiversity Plan, we are constructing pollinator friendly transport corridors all along our network, offering safe shelter and passage for bees through the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan. Some of our sustainable initiatives include reducing grass cutting to allow our native wildflowers time to emerge. By delaying the start of grass cutting, native flowers like the bee orchid have the opportunity to bloom along Ireland’s transport corridors. Rather than sowing wildflowers, we can simply let our native flowers emerge. This not only reduces light pollution for nocturnal pollinators but also safeguards embankments and rock cuttings, enhancing our landscapes and supporting Ireland’s vital pollinators. 🌼🐝 We recognise that a thriving natural environment is essential for resilient and sustainable infrastructure on our network. Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay, highlighting the urgent need for our generation to restore health to damaged environments. We are passionate about the environment and wildlife protection. Through our projects and on behalf of our customers, we promote biodiversity, protect and enhance habitats for various species, and work diligently towards decarbonising our value chain. Additionally, we support and invest in accredited emission mitigation activities that extend beyond our value chain, particularly those generating co-benefits for people and nature. For example, the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve REDD project in Indonesia protects threatened peatland rainforest on the southern coast of Borneo, preventing its conversion to palm oil plantations. While we cannot turn back time, we can grow forests, revive water sources, and restore soils. We are the generation that can make peace with the land. Together, we can achieve #GenerationRestoration and secure a sustainable future for all.

This year's theme, 'Be part of the Plan', is a powerful reminder that each one of us has a crucial role to play in halting and reversing the loss of biodiversity worldwide. Aberdare Yetu is deeply committed to protecting the extraordinary biodiversity of the Aberdare Range. Our forests, rivers, and wildlife are not just natural treasures but essential pillars of our ecosystem. Every tree, every river, and every animal is a vital part of the intricate web of life that sustains our planet. In line with this year’s theme, we call upon the Kenya government to honour this day by halting the construction of the road through the Aberdares ecosystem. This project threatens to disrupt the delicate balance of our environment, endangering numerous species and undermining our conservation efforts. Protecting our biodiversity is not just an environmental issue but a moral imperative for the well-being of our nation and future generations. We urge the government to explore alternative routes and solutions that do not compromise the integrity of this critical ecosystem. By making this decisive move, Kenya can lead by example, demonstrating a true commitment to being part of the global plan to preserve biodiversity. We call upon individuals, communities, and nations to unite in this vital mission. Together, we can implement sustainable practices, restore degraded ecosystems, and ensure that our actions today create a thriving, biodiverse world for future generations. Aligned to the MAS Plan for Change commitment of restoring biodiversity in 100 times the space that we occupy, by 2025, we are on a continuous journey to restore habitats and enhance ecosystems in the many geographies that we operate.    The sustainable restoration of biological diversity requires a holistic approach. Bee Business at Wienerberger Deutschland ! Wienerberger has committed to drafting a biodiversity action plan for all production locations by the end of 2023. As a member of the biodiversity community, I am happy that this goal has been achieved on the German side. Biodiversity has always been an integral part of the company's business model and is one of the pillars for achieving climate goals. The action plans include comprehensive measures to fully realize the biodiversity potential of our locations. Flora and fauna are explicitly protected, and we promote an increase in fauna—focusing on bees, bumblebees, hoverflies, birds, and butterflies—through individual projects. Expanding biodiversity projects to our production sites is a crucial step in protecting our natural environment. We are aware that Flora and fauna, as the living world of an area, play a vital role in ecosystems through complex webs and ecological relationships.
