Large Roman pool and other buildings discovered in Vibo Valentia Recent archaeological excavations at the Urban Archaeological Park in Vibo Valentia have unveiled significant remnants of Roman civilization. The discoveries were part of seismic retrofitting works at the “P.E. Murmura” school and revealed an array of ancient structures and artifacts. Originally established as the Greek colony Hipponion in the 7th century BCE, Vibo Valentia was annexed by the Roman Republic in 194 BCE and renamed. The recent excavations have uncovered structures dating from the Late Republican Age (2nd-1st centuries BCE) to the Imperial Age (2nd-3rd centuries CE). The most striking findings include the remains of a Roman domus (private dwelling), a thermal complex, and a large ornamental pool, possibly a natatio, lined with colorful marble... Fascinating finds on the A428: from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age Archaeologists working on the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvements near the Cambridgeshire-Bedfordshire border have made significant discoveries that shed light on the ancient history of the region. The excavation, conducted in collaboration with the Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA), has unearthed artifacts from both the Iron Age (800 BCE – CE 43) and the Roman period (CE 43 – 410). The vast scale of the dig, equivalent to 89 full-sized football pitches, makes it one of the largest ever undertaken in the area. One remarkable find is a loom weight believed to date back to the Bronze Age (2500-800 BCE). Archaeologists uncover 3,000-year-old ceremonial temple in Peru Archaeologists in Peru have uncovered an early temple phase at the Rurupa Ceremonial Temple complex, in the Anco Huallo-Uripa district of the Chincheros province in the Apurímac department. The temple’s origins date back to approximately 3,000 years ago, with evidence suggesting it served as a central hub for ritual activities during the Middle Formative Period (1000 – 800 BCE). Excavations reveal a multi-phase construction, with the initial phase characterized by a rectangular platform and three structures, one of which contained a sacrificial guinea pig on a rectangular altar. What sets this discovery apart is the architectural style, plastered in white and adorned with various colors of pigment...
