We’ve set a goal: To connect the Danish islands of Fyn and Als in 100% sustainable way.
In recent years, the importance of climate and nature conservation has grown significantly, especially in the evaluation of infrastructure projects. But practical strides in this direction have been limited.
With a bridge connecting the islands of Als and Fyn, we aim to change that. We firmly believe that roads, bridges, and tunnels are vital for progress and future prosperity. They are lifelines for communities, people, and businesses on the island of Als. But they shouldn’t be built at the expense of nature and our climate.
To ensure the feasibility of our vision, we’ve engaged Kraka to conduct a thorough analysis.
If you read Danish, you can read more about the analysis in Danish business daily Børsen. I have written a commentary with Claus Jensen, Chairman of the AlsFynForbindelsen.
Our goal is to establish a fixed link between Fyn and Als as a model project for sustainability - encompassing climate, biodiversity, resource use, land impact, noise, and recreational values.
I hope I live to see a fixed link between Fyn and Als. It was always my dream. That’s why our analysis represents a blend of visionary thinking, pioneering spirit, and professional pride. It will be a world’s first in such a large infrastructure project.
We are embarking on a challenging yet undoubtedly necessary task. Our findings will also be valuable for other bridge projects around the world in both rural and urban areas. In the US, President Biden has launched over 4,600 bridge projects and begin repair on over 69,000 miles of roads across the country.
We hope our approach will set the standard for analyzing and building the infrastructure of tomorrow. Stay tuned for more updates!
